Hard beds at POR -- can't sleep. What to do?

Hello, I'm at POR right now, and I love the resort. But it's the middle of the night and I can't sleep because my arms keep falling asleep on these hard beds! I've maneuvered the kids around and tried both beds as well as the trundle. I'm sooooo not a complainer, but this is not good... I don't know what to do. I'm in panic mode right now, because this is only our second night, and I need sleep to brave the parks.

I've stayed here before just last year, and I don't remember having this issue. I wonder if there are other rooms here with softer beds, and if so, does the resort know which ones they are? And would they switch us? In my delirious, panicked state, I'm considering all my options. Go buy an air mattress, move hotels (probably nothing available), get some sort of mattress pad...

Sigh, zzzzzz, wah. Any ideas?

Tylenol Sleep always works for me when I'm away. I can't sleep in a hard bed either but those pills help me get a good night sleep despite the bed!

If you have a car you might be able to pick up a Full sized memory foam mattress topper. They are on sale at Target for about $42.

I soooo feel your pain. I was there last week with the same problem! I just wish the pillows weren't sooo puffy! I like it real soft and flat. Had to take a little Tylenol PM to finish out the trip. Hope it improves for you!! Have a magical time!:)

Take 1 Unisom sleep gel (over the counter) 1-2 hours before you go to bed. Just enough to take the edge off. Works like a charm.

I agree with the Tylenol PM idea. I can't travel without it. Works like a charm and I don't feel groggy in the morning. Good Luck!:)

When we were at Poly they sold Unisom right in the little store there called Samoa snacks. It was buy the toiletries and asprin. Hope you are able to get some from the gift shop and get some rest. Otherwise I would ask at the desk for softer beds. The worst they can say is no or they don't know. Hope you get some rest.

Thank you all for the reply. I will take your advice and get some sleep meds for tonight. Around 3:30, I was finally able to find a position where I didn't have that arm-falling-asleep problem, and I finally fell asleep. Swan/Dolphin is looking really good for my next trip! :coffee:

I thought it was just me and my wife being spoiled by our bedding at home. I found it hard and the sheets rough and slept a total of about 5 hours in two nights. Those pillows are prison issue too!

Can I ask all of you who use Tylenol PM a question? Do you all feel awake enough in the morning? I like to hit the ground running, especially at WDW. If so, I'd love to try it there.

Regarding Tylenol PM, you probably won't want to take it unless you have a good 8 hours ahead of you before you have to get up. It's not something you'd want to take in the middle of the night to fall asleep because you'd probably wake up feeling very groggy. I find it best to take it around 9:00 p.m. It usually makes me drowsy enough to fall asleep around 10:00 p.m. (I get up at 6:15 a.m.). Also, the label says you can take 2 but I find 1 tablet is plenty for me.

Another tip - there's a variety called Tylenol Simply Sleep. It contains the ingredient to help you sleep but not the Tylenol. If you don't have any pain and just want to sleep, it's safer to take Simply Sleep. It only contains the antihistimine that helps you sleep and not the pain reliever. Tylenol is safe if you take it properly, but it's never good to take a drug unless you really need it. I prefer using Simply Sleep instead of the regular stuff.

The active sleep aid ingredient in Tylenol PM is diphenhydramine....AKA Benadryl. If you want the sleep aid without the tylenol, save yourself a few bucks and pick up some wal-dryl or other generic form of diphenhydramine. Its an antihistamine, allergy med, that sort of thing. It does help with sleep but that is not why it was developed. Be careful what you mix with it, it can be a dangerous drug; ie alcohol. Sorry, just the nurse in me coming out. On the other hand, *I* am excited about firm mattresses and fluffy pillows, can't wait to sleep at POR in few weeks!

Wow, our mattress at home must be really hard because when we were recently at POR, I though the mattress was lovely and soft!! :rotfl:

Or perhaps not all mattresses at the same.

Generally, they are cycled in and out at certain rates, and most likely not all at the same time.
