I'm getting my two upper wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow... And I'm having nightmares! Please, tell me it won't be that bad! The dentist says it's a simple yanking, since they're both out of the gums. My DH says it only hurts when they have to cut in to get them out... But there's needles involved!! And yanking tools!!

Please, tell me happy stories about how easy this will be.....

Hmmm - considering whether or not you will be administered "happy pills" might make for some "happy stories." My boss still laughs at the message I left her the next morning after my emergency yank the previous afternoon. I was overmedicated (by the dentist) and was completely loopy. It took two extra days (no lie!) to get it all out of my system.

They cut them out if they are impacted. Sounds like yours will be easy.

I would suggest you get all four out at the same time if possible, that way you only have to do it once.

I had two taken out and then had to go back a few years later for the other two. Different dentist each time.

First dentist had to cut them out. He didn't get out all of the tooth and I had to go back to have a sliver removed from my gum.

Second dentist was an absolute breeze, he pulled them. I asked to be gassed, and a few seconds later I asked the nurse when we were going to start and she laughed and said "You're done!" It was painless and recovery was fast.

They put me to sleep, so I'm not much help. DH was medicated, and I swear they could have removed ANYTHING and he wouldn't have minded. He was so high that I almost couldn't get him up the one step into our house when I took him home. He was too funny - and he laughed at himself, too. He doesn't even remember them pulling his teeth. Just how nice everyone was and how beautiful the view out the window was. LOL! Must not have been too bad. Made me glad that he never decided to be a recreational drug user.

You'll hurt later, but it's not horrible. Just don't drink with a straw. You can create a dry socket that way and I understand that IS painful. Let us know how it goes.

They are already through?? Oh yeah it will be really easy! I just had my two that were already coming through pulled a couple of months ago. Nothing to it at all! The dentist came in and jiggled my gums and gave me numbing shots.....they didn't hurt at all just a very very little stinging...nothing I would even compare to hurting. Then all you feel is a little pressure and actually I didn't even know when they came out. Afterwards I had two big holes in the back of my mouth...LOL! I didn't even take the pain meds they gave me, just took Tylenol!

No problem at all!!

Now on the other side of my mouth both are impacted so I'm putting that off as long as possible although I don't think it will be bad I just don't like the idea of anestisia (however you spell it)

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled that way. They just shot me up with novicane and seriously just yanked them out! My bottom two they did a little incision because of the way the gumline in the back was (they didn't want to risk tearing) but the top two were honest straight pulls. Very easy and I was out later that night eating potato chips (no joke!!!!!) I am very glad that I wasn't put under or anything like that as it made recovery time much easier I think :)

I only have the two upper ones. :) A little bit of luck!

And according to the dentist, I can drive myself home afterward (though I won't be!), so that makes me think the painkillers aren't that strong...

Oh, and my mom had dry socket and already warned me about drinking from a straw...

I've got the happiest! I don't have any wisdom teeth! Woo hoo! :teeth: The dentist has done plenty of x-rays and says he doesn't even see an indication that they would be impacted. :teeth: :teeth:

My son is having all 4 of his out this Friday, so I understand your anxiety. They have provided him with lots of medication, etc. for swelling, infection, and so forth.

I have taken the day off to spend with him as they say he needs someone with him for about 6 hours.

Good luck on your procedure.

I had 1 removed 4 1/2 years ago. It was out of the gums. I remember mostly sleeping for a couple of days afterwards (I should've gone to the dentist a long time before I did, the tooth was causing problems in my cheek). I didn't really remember too much pain from it. But I did lose about 15 pounds from getting it removed.:teeth:

In September I had the last 3 removed, I was awake during the whole thing. 2 were out of the gums, 1 was in the gums (it hurt the least). The only problem I really had was that the dentist put stitches in my gums. One of the areas was tender for about a month (tender meaning I whined a lot from it;) ). I thought it had abcessed, but the dentist assured me it hadn't (I still think he was wrong;)). I had nice, pretty purple bruises (on the outside of my cheeks) from the removal that lasted about 3 weeks or so. I was swollen, but it looked a lot worse than it felt.

When I had the 1 removed, I think I took 1 of the pain pills that was prescribed. I didn't need them. When I had 3 removed, I took ALL the pain meds and about 1/2 a big bottle of Advil. The bad thing is I think I only lost about 5 pounds from getting them removed.:teeth:

My sil loved hearing me on the phone when I called her after taking the first pain pill this last time.:teeth: I've been told I was waaaaaaaaaaaay past being happy.:o:teeth:

You'll do fine.:) Get a little bulb syringe to cleanse the areas with warm water afterwards. That'll help keep the area clean so it'll heal faster AND that warm water feels pretty good on those areas.:) Good luck.:)

I had all four of mine pulled at once. Two were impacted, so I had to go under. I was the first appointment that morning. I think I was home by 11am. Anyway, I was in work, pulling my 3pm to 11:30pm shift in a nursing home that night. :teeth: I had requested the night off and had been given permission, but I felt no pain whatsoever so I went to work. I didn't want to waste a day off! LOL! :teeth: I had a mouth full of gauze that I had to change frequently that night, and that was very unpleasent, but other than that, nothing to it. :)

This is a very timely post! I'm going to a consultation this Friday about having all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled. All 4 are above the gum line. I've been VERY nervous about this whole thing, but these posts have made me feel a lot better. I hope my experience is as quick and painless as some of these were. :D

Had 4 out in two different appts this past fall.

I went to an oral surgeon since dentists in this town don't pull teeth. they gave me a novacaine block and the laughing gas. All I felt was a little "pull" when they took the teeth out. Kinda like a pinch. Took about 20 min. start to finish.

Load up on popsicles and soup before your appt. My mouth was stiff for a few days aft.

You'll be fine.

Herc.

I also went to an oral surgeon that my sil worked for ,I was scared to death! They put me to sleep(thank God) and the next thing I remember was telling everyone how much I loved them.LOL Okay I don't actually remember but have been reminded alot! I came home and slept for the rest of the day and night. The next morning I was fine. No brusing and not too much swelling. I hope everything goes well. Don't use the syringe(sp) at first because it can your blood clots to come out and that can cause a dry socket also.....wait a few days.

Good luck, Hope

I only had 3 wisdom teeth and they were all erupted (not impacted). The dentist filled one of them and left it because he said I was using it to chew. (Still have it.) One was removed unexpectedly when I went in for a filling on the same side. The dentist said, ‘while we’ve got this side all numb, how about we pull that wisdom tooth.’ He said it would pop out like a champagne cork, and I guess it did. It didn’t take long, and it didn’t hurt at all. I was kind of miffed that they wouldn’t let me keep my tooth. (They said it would smell). I couldn’t talk for a while afterwards because of the novaciane and I was kind of tired the next day, but I had no pain. The last one was removed a couple of weeks later, and I had no problems. But, I made sure they let me keep my tooth. (I just wanted to see it.)

All 4 of mine were impacted. I went in and had it done about 12-13 years ago.
I went to an oral surgeon to have it done.
I had NO swelling, NO bruising, NO dry sockets.. nothing.

The next day I was fine.

i had my impacted ones removed. no pain no bruising was on phone 2 hours later. used oral surgeon.

i had more pain with my braces than i did my teeth being dug out.

I will be soon putting you all to shame. I have a consultation in a few weeks to get 8 teeth pulled at once!! Four wisdoms and then also four pre-molars. I am getting braces soon (to wear for over three years) and they need to do all this surgery first. UGH!!! :(

I had all 4 taken out when I was 18. Two were impacted and the oral surgeon said I would not want to come back to have them done in a few years. When I was being put under I remember thinking "wow, I have to remember this weird feeling to tell my friends" LOL. I'm sure it will be different for you since they aren't impacted.
