... that the only reason the Declaration of Independence passed was that it is so hot and humid in Philadelphia in July that all the members of the Continental Congress voted for the thing so they could get out of town to someplace cooler. (I think most took the expressway to Atlantic City and played craps.)

Apparently the delegates from New England almost croaked in their horse hair wigs and wool coats. They would have surely succumbed to the weather if it and not been for the noble work of one Samuel Adams, brewer, patriot.

So to honor the day, our history and this fine American patriot, on this uncomfortable hot humid Philadelphia day, I am going to pound back a few Sam Adams beers.

I feel it is my duty!

Interesting.

PS - I just looked at your website, very entertaining!
We are rained out down here, otherwise I would have something else to do!

and if willyJ was around ....we would surely run OUT of Samuel Adams....

Can you IMAGINE being in all those clothes in our humidity and no relief in sight? And no Sammies, either!! I'm glad you are doing your patriotic duty. And if I bring a weenie American LIGHT brew to your DIS meet (shhh...am I allowed to mention that on this board?) will you make fun of me like MY friends do???

Make fun? ME? NEVER!

Well I'll have a few weenie American LIGHT brews around. (we are NOT mentioning what for, I don't want to get banned!) Typically we use them to fill the water baloons and wash tyhe dishes with, I didn't know you could drink the stuff.

It was truly an amazing period in history Mr. Zurg. . .

. . especially when you stop to consider that it was during that same summer that "Lucky Lindy" flew George Washington's wooden teeth from a kite in a snow storm and discovered the Pina Colada. . .

;)

:teeth:

PS: Kim, the Founding Father's were brilliant men and unlike the management of Ruby Tuesdays they would have iced down twice as much beer once they saw me arrive. . . ;)

Yeah and it is also a little known fact that he cut down a strawberry bush, not a cherry tree. And it is how, after Ben Franklin hooked the blender to the kite, they made the first strawberry margarita.

It was a short step from there to the full rainbow margarita we now serve (and/or consume) with great patriotic ferver at the Mexico pavilion at Epcot.

Every holiday I try a multitude of things to try to get my wife to let me have a least one beer. (even if it is just a nip) I printed off your post and showed it to her..I thought that since she was a teacher she might go for the historical aspect of the holiday and let me have a beer. It didn’t work..I guess I will have to wait until Labor Day for my next attempt.:(

Hmm so if it wasn't raining you still wouldn't have seen my site? Story of my life......

Hmmmm. . .

Quite a dilema Charlie my friend, but I think I have a solution for you. . .

Come on over to The Zurg's little get together here in Philly next Saturday; drink all the beer you want; then after you pass out on his lawn with the rest of us, I'll have Maggie take a picture. . .

Then when you get home you can show the pic to your wife and swear you were not drinking beer at some DIS Meet. . but rather you were attending an historically accurate Civil War re-enactment. . .

;)

I knew there was a reason why I like this great country.....great beer, and great friends!! ;)

I agree with you wholeheartedly Maggie! ;)

ROFL! DH had the same attitude about his patriotic duty yesterday.
In fact since he discovered the Liberty Inn at Epcot serves Sam Adams, we have to make that part of every Disney trip so he can show just how patriotic he is. ;)
