Has anyone ever been in Epcot on July 1st? I wonder if they ever do anything at each world pavillion on the countries respective national holidays?
I work in Canada at Epcot, we had a pretty good celebration.
• From 11:00-5:00, kids could take poster paper, maple leafs, glitter, glue, etc. and create their own Canada artwork. This was available where the Province flags were located on the main walkway near the popcorn cart until it rained. When the rain came down, the art table was moved to Kidcot. The glitter wasn't available at Kidcot (too messy in that area), however, but everything else got moved.
• Province flags were up near the popcorn cart, as I mentioned before. Country flags were all over the entrance to the pavilion.
• Cast Members wore flags and Canadian hats at the merchandise areas to help celebrate.
• Most of the guest interaction activities happened in the O'Canada Attraction. In the Attraction, before many shows (not
ALL shows), a Cast Member would invite up all Canadians in the audience to the front to hold up a Canadian flag and/or stand beside the flag while singing O'Canada. The theatre Cast Member would follow up by giving many interesting facts about Canada and how Canada became one country.
• Kidcot also added a mini-hockey shootout section for kids. During random times of the day, competitions took place for little prizes.
• There were a bunch of school-aged kids from Canada going around the pavilion at nightfall singing O'Canada in front of guests. Well preformed too.
• Before Illuminations, more national anthem singing took place by Guests & Cast Members. There was a lot of people dressed in red & white in the Canadian pavilion all day, but majority of the red/white world travellers came back and ended their day by watching the fireworks in their country's pavilion.
• Cast Members also had their own celebration, held by Disney, whenever they had their break.
There was A LOT of stuff happening in the Canadian pavilion. Many of the attraction-held festivities were things those
specific Cast Members wanted to do to make the event extra special so I wouldn't expect to stand behind the flag and sing "O'Canada" every year in the attraction. Our Cast Members went the extra mile yesterday to make the day exciting.
There was a blog post from a few years back stating how most people were oblivious that it was Canada Day. In talking to guests, we found that majority of the people knew it was Canada Day. The exception being those who traveled from much longer distances and may not of known much english.
