Steamboat Willie wasn't the first Mickey Cartoon. Mickey was "created" in April 1928 and appeared in his first cartoon release on May 15, 1928 in Plane Crazy, though it did not have sound.

We'd be a lot richer without Mickey Mouse! Just kidding! I love Mickey. I can't imagine a world without the Magic Kingdom or Disneyland park. Thank you for your vision Walt! Also, thank you to Lillian for coming up with the name Mickey. Without her, we'd be celebrating Mortimer's birthday. Mortimer Mouse just doesn't have the same ring to it like Mickey Mouse.
