Hang an " I'M AN IDIOT" sign around your neck

I believe Lumiere's has the same dress code as Triton's. I agree, the Navigators on Dave's site don't make this very clear.
It's interesting that the information at the DCL web site conflicts with the information that passengers receive on the ship. It appears that when they loosened the suggested attire on the Disney Magic, they didn't update the web site.

I've assumed the suggested attire in Lumiere's was loosened because the Magic has a formal and a semi-formal night - so, depending on the rotation, some passengers would have hardly any casual nights under the former dress suggestions (if neither their formal nor semi-formal night was in Lumiere's).

Also, I would question the use of the phrase "dress code." There's a difference between a dress code, requested dress, and suggested dress. A "dress code" is something that must be obeyed, such as dress code at a school. "Requested dress" means "please obey." And "suggested dress" means "here's what we would suggest."

I think it's fine to wear a sport coat in Lumiere's. But it's also fine to wear casual attire as suggested in the Daily Navigator. (I would certainly respect the suggestion not to wear shorts or jeans, and I would consider a t-shirt to be too casual.)

I have nothing against wearing a jacket. Heck, I even wore a summer sport coat over a Hawaiian shirt on tropical night in Parrot Cay, the way men do in fine restaurants in Hawaii.

But I wouldn't insist that a passenger should dress up more than what is suggested in the Daily Navigators -- unless that's what that passenger wants to do.

Me neither. Unfortunately, DCL is sending a conflicting message.

Momma, your husband will be fine :) Don't worry, it's your vacation! Personally, when I walk into dinner, it's all about me. Just wine and dine me, pamper me, put creme brulee on a pretty plate.. and I'm a happy camper.

As long as the person sitting next to me isn't butt nekkid, or sitting in a wet bathing suit, I could really care less... I mean, it's nice to be considerate, and make the attempt to be within it the suggestions-- that's just being a polite person, but not everyone is that way, and I can't change them so why concern myself about it!

Cause I am not going to spend one second of my cruise thinking negatively or complaining, I'm in it for fun, pampering, and relaxation :)

Actually I need to update the information in the thread at the top of the board, thanks for the reminder.

On the MAGIC they now have dress codes per NIGHT, not per restaurant in the rotation restaurants, as reported earlier. Lumiere's is NOT a jacket recommended restaurant unless you happen to dine there on formal or semi-formal night. If you're there on one of the other rotation nights it is casual, with no jeans or shorts requested.

DH will be willing to dress in a nicely pressed shirt, tie and slacks but there is no way he'll go for a suit! I don't mind putting a nice "church" dress on for dinner myself. So, should I not do Triton's or will we be okay?

You'll both be dressed perfectly. My DH wore the exact same thing, except with blue blazer over top (and the blazer came off within 2 seconds of being seated), every night except for the semi and formal nights, and he blended right in.

Tritons is an extremely classy restaurant...and extremely expensive.......the t-shirt clowns would never get away with their slobness in a landbased exclusive restaurant. As a guest, its not my job to tell them to change, its the HEADWAITER's job: Let that guy do SOMETHING for his TIP money !

I dunno, Disneygator, after 29 Disney cruises we are always looking for new life experiences, and having "butt nekkid" dinner companions would certainly fall into the category! :earseek:
We had a lot of new life experiences on #29, so maybe nudity will crop up on #30. :jester:

I am SO confused.

I just received my docs 2 weeks ago for the Magic (departing next Saturday), and the text in the "Passport to Magic" is the same as the website, and what I quoted earlier: jackets requested in Lumiere's, unless it's a theme night.

Since I wouldn't be expected to see a Navigator before getting on the ship (and I woudn't have if I wasn't on the DIS boards), how am I supposed to know that they've changed the dress "code" suggestions? The only information available to a normal DCL guest says that Lumiere's is jacket-requested. So if DCL has really made this change, when were they planning to let the rest of us know about it?!?

While I don't want to be over-dressed if I can help it, I've planned my outfits with this level of formality in mind, and with 6 days to go, I'm not looking forward to coming up with new outfits.

One of my pet peeves when I'm cruising is when people don't follow the dress code. Most of us don't want to dress up. I'd go to dinner in my jeans every day if allowed, lol. There is always a handful of people though who wander in to dinner in their jean shorts and a t-shirt from that day's port of call. That really does bother me. If you don't want to dress up, stay in your room and get room service. I've done that before. On my first cruise I didn't want to dress up for formal night, so I didn't go to the dining room. ("Suggested" attire, I believe, is a nice way of saying "minimum." Let's face it, most cruiselines won't turn people away, but those people will def. stand out if they don't at least try to fit in.)

It's part of cruising.

My dh felt the same way, but on our last cruise last year, he brought his black suit with him and he looked wonderful. (I think he liked dressing up too, but he won't admit it!)

True Barb... I guess it would depend on who walked in butt nekkid.. Brad Pitt? Okay... I 'll let it slide... but just for him :)

I have no pet peaves while I'm cruising!

While my DSs dressed in Dockers and a nice shirt with a collar to dinner every night but our night at Tritons (where they wore a dress shirt and tie with black dockers) I didn't care what other people were wearing. The people I tended to notice were the people who were dressed up with their families and we would comment, "doesn't that family look nice?!"

Our table mates' 14 yo son wore jean to dinner every night. He and his sister (who was 16 and did dress up every night) were the nicest kids - polite, talked with the adults and our younger boys - I didn't particularly care what he was wearing. Behavior is much more important to me.

I agree with those who said live and let live. Why let someone's jeans wreck an expensive vacation for you and your family?

Anyone who wanders in wearing their jeans shorts and t-shirt from that days port of call (especially in the summer) probably has a bit of a pungency about them...that in itself is a good reason to enforce a dress code.

Our teenagers to join us at dinner, I've relaxed my expectations somewhat. My son has no real reason to own a suit and at this point would probably outgrow it after one wearing if he did. A long sleeved shirt, tie is about as much as I could get him into without starting a major conflict. Now I have been quietly collecting non blue jean pants for our next cruise.

For this cruise I may try for dockers and a blazer instead of the tennis shoes.

Personally, I loved formal night. One friend of my son and his Dad wore their Kilt's, their was another family in with the women in Sari's. People watching was really fun, so many pretty gowns and handsom men. My perfect family picture would be my men in tux and my daughters in gowns. But, that said, money is an issue and if it is a choice between renting tux for the guys and sending them on a snokling trip, the fish win.
