Handling summer rainy weather

I hate the ponchos, they just make you so hot. We always take mini umbrellas. They won't keep you dry in a downpour, but are good enough until you find a place to get out of the rain.

There are some things to be aware of this year when storms hit. It isn't as easy to use an indoor ride as shelter for a storm because the queues are mostly outdoors. Also, the shops and quick service will limit occupancy, so you might not be able to duck into one of those. Last summer, the lines weren't nearly as long as they are lately. Tip: if you are at Hollywood Studios, the pergolas at Sunset Ranch Market are a great place to sit out a storm.

I run warm normally, so wearing raincoats or ponchos in the summer heat and humidity doesn’t work well for me. My strategy is to wear clothing that is light and made of quick drying fabrics along with sandals. Works for the rides you get wet on too!

No ponchos for us, but I do love watching them fly over other peoples heads when the wind hits. I went to the local sports store (Academy Sports is my local, some people have Dick's or REI closer), and got some light rain jackets that fold up in to a pocket in the jacket, making them a nice little square that fits in my park bag nicely. I have one for everyone in the family, I paid about $20 after tax and bought mine 3 years ago, it has been on 16 trips and still holding up beautifully. I'm sure the cheap ponchos I bought for the trip before I got these are breaking down in a landfill somewhere, they lasted all of 2 days....but they were cheap. I bought my jacket a couple sizes larger than I needed, I usually wear a medium but got an XL so I could fit it around my bag and keep it dry too. It usually fits down to the level of my shorts so they stay dry as well, and I buy my kids larger sizes as well for this reason and we always walk away far dryer than most people. They stay down in the wind, have hoods with elastic draw string pulls, and always fold up nice and small after use (unlike ponchos, which I can never get folded up well ever again).

We have a few Ozark Trail brand ponchos from walmart and one Mickey Mouse poncho that we purchased on our very first trip at a Walgreens near WDW. All have held up well and kept our clothes from getting soaked. When we are done, we shake them the best we can without dousing others, fold/roll them up, and put them in gallon ziplocks for the next rainstorm.

We’re heading to WDW on Father’s Day, and this will be our first time visiting during the summer rainy season. Since we’re usually there in cooler weather, we’ve always just worn our jackets for any rain storms we’ve been in. Looking for recommendations on how you handle the heat/rain combo. Dollar Tree ponchos? Disney ponchos? Something else? Is it even worth messing with an umbrella?
We used these on a late August / early September trip and found them to be great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073RSSLKS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I prefer Disney ponchos and I always have them in my backpack. I do also like using an umbrella, both in the sun and rain. We always take an afternoon nap break back at our resort, so we usually miss the rainstorms.

This. I hate ponchos like burning, they make me feel like a Thanksgiving turkey in a roasting bag and they're terrible from an environmental waste standpoint. I have a lightweight Columbia rain jacket that packs into its own pocket. Takes up like no space in my park bag and does triple duty, not just for rain but also on rides where I'm bound to get wet (Splash, Kali), and on buses/restaurants where the AC is blasting (I get cold very easily). It dries super fast too due to the moisture wicking tech. Paired with a compact travel umbrella I am good to go while everyone else is running for cover.

I've never had an issue with compact umbrellas in the parks, either. I only bought a new one the other day because the one I've been using for ages doesn't have UV protection. Shade will be as important as rain cover imo with all of the queues snaking out into the direct hot sun. And I definitely plan to enforce distancing around me with it, lol.

We typically go in August, so prime rainy weather. I personally hate ponchos. It's always so hot and I can't stand the sticky feeling. We switched to small umbrella's last time and were so much happier. We still tend to duck into a store or a ride/show to wait out the worst of it.

along with sandals
This. Bring a pair of worn in athletic sandals with good treads like chacos or teva. Wet shoes and socks lead to blisters fast.

I also like the dollar poncho. Find I can wear it again another day by hanging to dry in the room shower. No need to contribute to landfills every day.
