Handicapped RV in handicapped parking?

We are driving a Fun Mover RV to Disney World. In the Passporter guide I received, it says disabled parking (with valid placard) is free. Three questions: Is disabled parking free? Will they allow a Fun Mover RV to park in the disabled parking? If we have to park elsewhere ( :guilty: ) will it still be free?

I really hope we can park in the disabled parking as it would be a looooooong walk to the entrance. Thanks in advance!

The handicapped parking is not particularly close to the park entrance, depending on the park so be prepared to revise your parking plans.

Wow, learn something new every day. I hadn't heard this before but I've never pointed out the hangtag to the person at the kiosk where you pay and my hangtag is usually taken down when I'm driving.

I'm pretty sure there are no spots big enough to park an RV at in the handicapped parking spaces. They're all normal sized spaces with a no parking spot between them for lifts/wheelchair access/etc. If you don't use a wheelchair/ECV it's probably best for you to park in the normal parking lot and use the tram. It gets you closer to the entrance then the handicapped parking is in most situations and especially at the MK.

I was under the impression that disabled guests still paid to park at the parks, it's just valet parking at the deluxe hotels that's free. They won't valet a motorhome or certain luxury cars (Ferrari's for example) so that's not going to help you.

I agree with this completely.

Because of the of the way the lots are set up, normally a medium motor home will take up the space for two cars. With a large motor home they will send you all the way to the end of a row to parallel park and take up several spaces.

The handicap areas do not have pull-though spaces as the regular parking, so you cannot take up two spaces. If you get there very early in the day you could possibly try to parallel park, taking multiple spaces, and you would have to be at the very edge of the handicap parking.

And I know at Typhoon Lagoon the only area you could park at would be in the bus/rv parking area way at the back of the main lot. The way the handicap spaces are set up there you would not have any ability to park.

If you stay on-site @ WDW, you are given a parking permit for your length of stay which entitles you for free parking @ the parks. A valid disabled parking pass only allows you to park in the disabled area. However, they have another area in parking where they park RV/ buses/ coaches. An RV would probably take up 2-4 spots @ they is already not enough disabled parking, so I doubt they will let you park such a big vechile in that area.
You could drop off the disabled party and park the RV in the appropriate area... then take the complimentary parking tram the the gates. :thumbsup2

My DM and DF used to have "Class C" motorhome, which is the smaller model with the bed over top of the driver/passenger seat area. This unit fit into a regular parking spot. Yeah, it was larger than a regular vehicle, but there was still room to get in and out and it did not hang out of the end of the spot.

We parked it in the offsite hotel parking lot in the handicapped spots. At the theme parks, Mom would show her handicapped placard and the CM would always tell her that she had to park in the RV parking . . . but Mom would explain that the vehicle fit in an average spot and they would relent and let her put it in the handicapped lot (which was much closer I think than the RV parking.)

I am not sure about the cost, but she seems to remember that we did not have to pay because of the handicapped placard.

You have a "Fun-sized" RV, so you may be in a similar situation.

One thing to clear up...a handicapped placard does *not* give you free parking at the theme parks. It only allows you free valet parking at the resorts ( who will still expect a gratuity). Also they charge more for an RV to park than a van or car. As for where you'll park it all depends on the size of the vehicle. If you are a guest at a WDW resort then parking is free no matter what you are driving.---Kathy

Yep, we've always paid for parking too with our disabled badge :)

Thanks for clearing up the price question- I didn't think that sounded right. There are 4 wheelchairs in our party. I particularly have a hard time driving because of arm weakness so parking far away would be bad. My Dad is the caregiver and we really don't like to split up. I have a trach and use a vent part time and Dad is the best/fastest when it comes to keeping my airway stable and clear...

As I remember the RV parking is the farthest away :guilty: Any way a Disney Cast Member could park it for us? How long a walk is it? There is no way we could use the tram.

There is no way a CM could park your vehicle for you- they are not allowed to leave their position in the parking lot or given responsibility to drive a guest's vehicle in the theme park lots. While I know you don't want to split up your party there might be no way around it with a larger vehicle or else if you have attendant controls on your chair your Dad might have to drive you to the entrance. The most stressful situation will be parking at the TTC where even the accessible parking is a good distance away then you have to either drive up an incline to get to the monorail or over a huge bump to get on the boat....and sometimes the boat isn't running. If you do take the monorail you will have to split up into several accessible "cars". ---Kathy
