Handicapped Parking?

Heres a question-
DGF broke her foot last month, so we are renting a scooter for our trip next week. I was talking about it with my mom earlier tonight, and she made the point- how will we get to the gates at MK (TTC)?? There is no way I know of to get the scooter on the tram, and we don't have a handicap placard, so are we just gonna be scooting the scooter all the way up through the parking lot??? Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

If you can get a placard for handicap parking there are spots upfront for cars with the stickers; you don't need a tram then to get to the park at all.

There are a few scooters that might fit on a tram, but most would not. They are heavy to lift and usually need to be taken apart some to get into any vehicle. If you don't have a placard then go to the parks early; so, you can be closer to the front parking. If worse to worse, one person would be with the scooter tagging along while the others go on the tram and then you would meet upfront at the park.

If you are staying onsite you can use Disney transportation with the scooter and get to the parks that way.

A final option might be to wheelchair the person to the park and do a scooter rental in the park which is much more expensive. You could even do a wheelchair for the whole time and skip the scooter.

Go to your State DMV site and print a copy of the form for a Disabled Tag. Ask the doctor to fill it out and then take to to a DMV office where you can get a temporary tag issued on the spot. The doctor will set the rcommended expiration date.

Before I got my placard we used to ask if we could drop off at the handicap area then we would drop of part of our party there. Then they would drive back around and the rest would take the tram and we would meet up at the monorail or boat

There is a guest drop off area near the kennels at the TTC. You could also ask if medical parking is available.

I have read on this site on previous occasions that people who rent scooters without having handicap placards, can explain it to the parking lot CM and he/she will direct you to the handicap parking area. You will be warned, however, to not park in any marked handicap parking spots (Police will ticket). There are unmarked parking spots there that can be used.

My opinion, and that of many others is, if staying on-site, take the bus to MK. It is much easier than the trek from the parking lot. I have no problem with my scooter on the Disney buses.

I believe that is true on some trams at DisneyLAND.
There are no wheelchair accessible trams at WDW.

I agree that it is easier for MK at WDW to take the bus from your resort. The bus will drop you off very close outside the turnstiles at the park. If you drive, you will need to get to the TTC and from there take a boat or monorail.

Your choices will be:
- apply for a state issued handicapped parking permit, which you should be able to get the application for on your state website, as Cheshire Figment suggested.

- drop the scooter user off at the park drop off point and then go park (ask when you get to the pay booth).

- let each CM that you come to know you have a scooter, but do not have a handicapped parking permit. They will direct you where you can park. DON’T park in any spot with blue painted lines or a wheelchair symbol unless you have a handicapped parking permit. Police do patrol the lots and they will ticket. The “Medical Parking” has some spots with blue markings and some others that you would be able to park in without having a parking permit.
