Hi, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I have not been able to find the answer. We will be staying offsite in July/August for the first time in a long while. I know having a handicap placard gets you free parking at resorts, but is there any concession for parks only or are we stuck with the daily fee?

Based on experience... you'll be paying the daily parking fee.
At the resorts the reason for the parking fee being waived is that they know full well they don't have enough handicapped parking spots to go around so its more just a "sorry, will this make it better?" approach.

If you are staying on site, parking at the parks is free (for everyone).

Edited to correct that parking is free at the PARKS not the RESORTS.

Somewhat related, if you do not have handicap placards, but have mobility devices is there somewhere specific to park? I seem to remember something about a medical lot being mentioned, but didn't pay too much attention since we always used Disney Transportation, but we will be renting a vehicle this time, so need a bit more information there.

Yes there is a medical lot Just let the cm know as you go this is where you need to park

Thanks for the replies! Guess we will need to bump up our savings to cover the big parking bucks🤪

Disney has the number that they're legally required to have, which is really all they're obligated to provide. I've not heard any reason from Disney as to why they don't charge those with placards for parking, but my personal guess is that is has to do with not wanting valet services to be overwhelmed by placard holders that don't want to pay for parking.

Along the same lines of this discussion. We are planning a Dec 2021 trip and my mom will be going. We will be staying offsite and renting a scooter that comes apart to be able to put in trunk of the rental van. She has a handicap tag here in Ohio. Can we just bring that to hang from the rearview mirror to be able to park in the handicapped parking section at the parks or do we need to get some kind of tag from Florida to park there?

Thanks.

As far as I know, all handicap placard from any U.S. state is valid in all 50 sates by federal law.

All 50 states have reciprocity - you can even fly to Florida, rent a car, and use your Ohio hangtag in the rental - the hangtag is assigned to the *person*, not the car.

That's why I keep mine in my purse, and never leave it in my car - if I am with a friend or driving another family member's car, I can still use my hangtag.

Luckily in OH, they will give you 2 hang tags. My sister has one she keeps in her purse and one in my car, since she doesn’t drive. My mom has plates on her car, puts a hang tag in my aunt’s van since they go a lot of places together and keeps the other in her purse.

FYI: You can also use a US HA plate/tag in Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. They all have a reciprocal agreement.

Thank you everyone. My mom also keeps her tag in her purse so we can use in whatever car she is in. It is good to know that we can just bring it with us on our trip.

Disney takes my handicap parking number on my card I assume it’s on file. Knowing at what hotel you are staying at. You get a hotel parking slip you display in your window and parking at parks is also free
As in if you pay for parking at your hotel then park parking is free. Only have to pay for parking once a day

For at least the last ? 5 - maybe 7 ? years or so when we have driven to WDW (and stayed on-site at Resorts) we have not been given any kind of parking slip - and although the Front Desk has asked for my car's license tag number (to insure that I was not charged for parking, for the last 3 years or so?) they never asked for my handicapped parking placard hang tag number. We have stayed at different Moderates and Deluxes; I don't know if that's because I am proactive about going straight to the front desk with my license tag number and a description of my car to let them know where I am parked, and that I am using a handicapped placard?

Oddly enough, at Marriotts version of DVC (we stay at their property frequently in Branson) they have a *whole* procedure surrounding parking and hang tags, etc.

But since Disney started charging nightly parking fees at the Resorts, I have had zero trouble; presumably because I get in front of it by going to the Front Desk in person on the first day to make sure that our folio is notated regarding parking.
