Just a quick question. Going soon and my dad has back & leg issues but wouldn't qualify for DAS. On our last trip when we went to Fantasmic! the cast member tried to tell him he couldn't sit in handicap seating without the DAS. We didn't let that stop us because I know that isn't the case but I just wanted a little verification from others who have been there lately. I'm prepared for battle if someone tries to stop him. Thanks in advance!

I think they have those sets saved fro people with mobility devices Did he have a wheel chair or ECV. If he did not have any mobility devices he could have sat close to the area where he would not have to go down the steps

Also was this at Disneyland or Disney world

Sorry, we were at DisneyWorld. The night we went to DHS last year he was using his cane. He did end up in a wheelchair for part of our trip due to a fall but it was after that night.

So what exactly did you want the back row is for people in wheel chair and or ECV and stroller as wheel chair ( since there are the cut out for them and they do not block the path) if he did not have one then they might have asked him to sit a row down where extra family member sit.

Most of the time the CM are very good at accomidating people with Disabilities and some times you will have to move for an ECV or wheel chair user ( I saw this once at ROL at AK there was a man sitting in the front row with his service dog in one of the wheel chair cut out and the CM ask him to move so that someone in a wheel chair or ECV could use it since there is not a lot of space the man did move after a little arguing. could this have been what happened to you that you wanted a spot for ECV wheel chair and was asked to move.

We didn't ask for the back row because we know that's for wheelchairs or ECVs. But there are more rows than the back row. There is a section of seating. We usually go down a few rows. There are typically fewer people in the section so he isn't crowded which helps with anxiety. He is able to sit at the end of the row so he can get up if he needs to leave. I just know handicap seating is not just for wheelchairs and ECVs. We had no issues anywhere else in any of the parks. Just this one time.

maybe you had the CM that was miss led. I would say to try agin next time did you explain his need and ask where he could sit that would accommodate his needs.

I'm curious if anxiety was discussed with the CM when you were talking to them about seating. If that's the case, I can understand why the CM was asking if your dad had a DAS to use the seating. Mainly because I imagine that a lot of people ask for special seating for "anxiety".

Nope, never mentioned. As stated, he walks with a cane there, we have handicap accommodations at the hotel, and he has a handicap placard for the car. He has spinal issues made worse by his fall out there last year and has neuropathy in his legs/feet. My only concern was because the cast member in question said you had to have a DAS in order to sit in the handicap section. He doesn't qualify since his is mobility related.

I think you just had a CM that misunderstood either what you wanted or Disney policy as you do not need a DAS ignorer to sit in the handicap area. If it happens your next trip ask to speak with someone else but please do not start a battle with a CM they have enough to deal with and enough rude people to lest someone a life time. If the CM is not doing there job and you ask to speak with a manager then the manager will make sure they know what they are suppose to do.

the HA overflow/companion seating is technically for people who are traveling with someone in a mobility device or with a DAS. Furthermore, most of the time they want you to move all the way over or at least to the middle if filling from both sides. sitting right there at the end while there is still room for others to access a row is frowned upon.

Last trip, DH was in a wheelchair (No DAS). We did hear CM asking some people if they could transfer. But we had no issues sitting the top row at Fantasmic.

one possibility would be rent a wheelchair for that night which would make him legal for handicapped. your plan to battle to keep him from being moved could get all of you removed if security is called. have done this when I used my cane. we have used those seats so I could see the show with my grandkids as they try to keep families together. and this was without a DAS
