I see many people requesting not to be in a handicaped room. I understand that there is not a tub, but is there any other reason that I'm not aware of? We're staying in a studio and a tub isn't manditory for us. I just wondered if there was another reason people request not to have one. Thanks!

Most of the time it is because of there is no tub, but some other concerns with the room is that there is limited counter space in the bathroom as opposed to the regular rooms and things are lower (the beds, the microwave, etc). Personally we stayed in one at the Beach Club Villas over Christmas (because it was clean when we checked in at 11am) and we loved the room. The only complaint we had was that there was not counter space in the bathroom...other than that we loved it. We would even consider requesting it in the future (but of course would not as we would not want to make a request for it if someone else needs it).

"Limited counter space" in the bathroom? None! DH even had to leave his razor on the floor, also toothbrushes. And the only closet area was in the armoire part of the TV. Fortunately, there were only 2 of us, and ever at that, there was barely enough room. Remember that in a studio, there's just a small kitchen counter area. Since in a HA studio, the microwave is on there, that severly limits the available counter space in the kitchen area. And for some inexplicable reason, in 2 HA studios we've been given (without being told-but that's a different story), there was no light switch by the bed, so in order to turn the lights out in the room, you had to get out of bed, then try to find your way back in the dark. That I didn't understand.

Out of necessity I am a regular HC room user. I would first ask what DVC resort you will be in a studio. There is a difference. Some of the answers you have got do not apply to all resorts.
As to the HC room vanities having no place to place toilet articles...I find that true in all the motels I stay in. The builders evidently don't figure we need any room for toilet articles. Go figure ?

Well we are booked at a Boardwalk preferred view studio but waitlisted for a BCV studio. This will be in August. Sounds like they haven't given a lot of thought besides accomodating a chair etc. Not just Disney from what you say, but builders in general. I wouldn't ask for one, don't need one, but I have read of people being given one. I was just wondering. I wonder if it would be too late to add "no handicapped room" to our ressie? Thanks for everyone's input!

DH, DD 4, DS 2 and I stayed in a HA studio at HHI just for one night. I found nothing to complain about the room in general except for the no tub. The shower is made with no "lip" to keep the water in (for obvious reasons). All it took was one shower for the children and the entire bathroom was soaked. I could not imagine staying for more than one night with small children. Probably wouldn't have been so bad if just DH and self.

We were there in Dec/Jan and of course got the handicapped room. I didn't see much difference except that the bathroom flooded everytime we showered.

This is a pet peeve of mine and not just at Disney but all hotels...giving someone a HA room without asking if they have any objection is just BAD service...plain and simple...it is deceptive--they know many people don't like the features of those rooms and they try to sneak them onto the unsuspecting...before you go to the room -ASK-ASK ASK...and unless you have no choice REFUSE these rooms if you value counterspace, dry bathroom floors...and peace and quiet because if you have kids they will really enjoy the flashing light and incredibly loud door bell thingy! :earboy2:
