We have a handicap parking for our car. Do I have to get a special one at disney or do I just use the one from home?

FL recognizes HC tags issued by all states and Canada I believe so as long as yours is state issued you ill be fine. We are renting a car and plan on bringing our hanging placard to use in the rental.

No you don't have to get anything special from disney you can use yours from home when entering a theme park just show it to the cm directing you so they direct you to those spots. If their full they will send you to over flow which would be close. If your staying at a Disney owned resort valet parking is free with the handicap placard or ask the security cm to direct you to the closet ones. They are clearly makes by either blue paint or sign and symbol on the ground or all three. You can get free valet parking at any of the Disney resorts so if you have an ADR at a resort you can use their valet for free just make sure to have the handicap placard with you.

When parking in the handicap lot, do you use a tram to get closer or are u already pretty close? It would be awkward trying to get her and her special needs chair folded up and put in a tram.

Most of the handicap lots are close enough you won't need the tram. Te Hollywood studious lot it in the middle of the bus stops so you just cross the street and your right their where the drops off. They also don't have a tram stop for handicap parking.

Ok good, that's a relief!

Your welcome the only one that is the closet to the entrance but still a little walk is mk parking your the closet to the front. But will have to use the side walk and go under the road and go the monorail or ferry that why mk the one place most people take the bus to because it let you off right in front.

There is more information about handicapped parking in the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board (or follow the link in my signature).

Also, we have found that the handicapped parking lots can sometimes fill up.

At Epcot, there are 2 areas, and they route guests to the second one when the first fills up. So, don't be surprised if you are directed to different places if you go to Epcot more than once. Some of the spots are pretty far out, but still an OK walk for someone who has a mobility device with them.

AK and the Studio have fairly small handicapped parking lots for the amount of people parking. At both parks, DH has needed to drop DD and I off and then go park because the lots were filled. This may not happen to you, but it is a possibility, so it is best to know so you can plan where you would meet up.

For MK, most guests staying on Disney property take the bus from their resort.
If you use the parking lot, you have to walk to the Ticket and Transportation Venter, then catch a boat or monorail to MK.
By using the buses, you cut off the boat or monorail step and end up dropped off close to the park entrance - near to where the monorail and bus drop guests off at MK.
