Hand luggage yet again - are batteries not allowed?

I've read everything I can about all the new rules and regulations and was confident I understood what is allowed and what is not.

My eldest DD was packing today to go to Spain when one of her friends (who is travelling with her) telephoned to say that a relative had been told to take batteries out of a camera before she could proceed on a flight to France.

Whilst I can understand the principle in the light of the current security levels it seems an odd rule if mp3 players, camera and laptops etc. are now permitted as hand luggagge.

Has anybody got any first hand experience of this?

Thanks.

Has anybody had an issue with Virgin on this subject?

Thanks

Also bear in mind that the EU regulations have become WAY more relaxed than UK to USA flights. They're still as strict as ever but TBH I don't think your DD will have a problem.

That said if it was me personally I'd put any electrical equipment in the hold!

Yes, the list confirms what we though, inasmuch as security was being a little over zealous.

Of course the issue with putting electrical equipment in the hold is the known problem with the baggage staff. Rock and a hard place!

Anyway, thanks for the replies.
