So I'm trying to plan my hand luggage.

On the way out I'm in Economy, and will be taking my wedding dress as carry on.

It just about fits in a wheeled holdall that is within the luggague allowance dimensions.

I know the rules used to be that I could also have a handbag - is this still the case? Or do I need to put the rest of my stuff into Jack's bag?

I think he's dreaing that! :rotfl:

I think you skipped a letter in your last line - I assume Jack is dreading it, not dreaming of it ;)

Apparently the rule is that you can have a handbag, provided it's a reasonable size. I make sure everything squeezes into my hand luggage though - otherwise it goes into DD's pull along luggage like yours. Is it a big handbag? They don't specify dimensions but they say something like 'reasonable' size so as long as it's not one of those huge ones, there should be no problem

Tell Jack to get used to it - you're going to be his wife and occasionally, that means carrying or holding the handbag. It will gain him respect, not damage his rep ....

heres the low down, flew econy last week,

going from london, they weighed hand luggage, the purse type small bag , I used a beach bag, coming back, I did the same but they never weighed it at La, ps, at the gate they really couldnt care, I left half my stuff with mum while I checked in,

Thanks Lee - he's definitely dreading it!! But then probably not as much as he's dreading sitting next to me for 9 hours with the trip SO close! :lmao:

He's a patient man luckily, as it's not often you find someone who can cope with the full force of an over excited Torsie!

I think what I may do is see if I can get all my essentials into a cross body bag that I can squeeze into the wedding dress bag if need be.....

Really? I think he's a lucky man and the excitement and sparkle is part of your charm :goodvibes

I use a cross the body bag when we go. It is a really small one and has a compartment for notes (cash), one for coins and one for my phone. I don't like having a big bag to lug around and prefer not to put my ID and cash into a backpack that can be opened behind me. The one I used the last two trips is really finished now, but I still have it and will replace it with similar as it worked so well. You should easily get a small bag to squeeze in with your wedding dress.

I know you can't count on it and have to go with the regulations, but my sister was given soooo much leeway with all her wedding gear (she was also married abroad) and we really got away with way more than we should have.

Hey :)
So I wanted to throw this option on the table for you.
When we got married in WDW I took my dress onboard in a special box from this company

Mine was pretty big and heavy but it fit in there a dream and was very easy to transport.

Virgin are very good about wedding dresses. We were flying Upper but I believe if you ask nicely and they have space they will still store your dress for you in the Upper Class closet. However these boxes are designed to fit and be the right dimensions for the cabin lockers.

Circa 2007 when we got married that was my one piece of hand luggage SIGH lol but nowadays you can def take that plus your handbag no probs.

I was so stressed about flying but on the day it went like a dream as I am sure yours will :thumbsup2

We flew LGW-MCO and back over the last fortnight, and at check in both at LGW and MCO they mentioned the need for hand luggage to be below a certain weight and dimension, but there was no follow up at the gate. There were people getting on laden down (especially on the way home!)

We had the same thing to and from Manchester. They also insisted on the one piece of handluggage rule - it was like being on easyjet

We flew from Manchester in September and got away with hand luggage and a handbag each (me and DH!!!!)

I flew with Virgin for my wedding in Antigua (hence my name!) and took both my hand bag and my dress on board with no problems. My dress was in a box that l got from the bridal shop, so it was all packed away nicely for me when l picked it up.

It was booked through Virgin as one of their wedding packages, and i'm pretty sure l remember reading in the travel docs that that was ok to do :)
