Hand Luggage Dimensions

Hi all,

I spoke to mum last night and gave her the maximum dimensions for her hand luggage. She called back telling me that her bag is within them when it's empty but as it's one covered in small pockets, once she had filled them it wouldn't be inside the dimensions anymore and was that ok?

I'm 99% sure that it wouldn't be ok as when she took it to the airport it would be outside the maximum dimensions. Is that right, should I get her to use another bag?

You know she really does amaze me sometimes. I explained to her that she would only be allowed one piece of hand luggage (ie one bag.) It took me almost half an hour to get it through to her that taking her hand luggage bag AND her handbag counted as taking two bags and wouldn't be allowed!!! :lmao:

As set out in BAA requirements;

"Each passenger can carry ONE item of cabin baggage each. The dimensions of this item must not exceed: a maximum length of 45 cm, width of 35 cm and depth of 16 cm (17.7"x13.7"x6.2" approx) including wheels, handles, side pockets etc."

Looks like it's a no-go on that one! :sad2:

Thought as much. Will have to start pressuring her to find a bag now, it took the best part of 10 weeks to get her to apply for a photo driving license so she would have some photo ID (for drinks, entry to parks) without needing to carry her passport around. She's really resistant and tells me over and over again that she'll get by. She's refusing to take any high factor sun cream even though we've warned her that the heat will be very insense.

Read on Teletext yesterday that it is hoped that hand-baggage restrictions on size are to be relaxed even more in the next few weeks. Great! How many others went out and bought new bags based on the current restrictions??? :confused3

I've been holding off, but it is driving me crazy... I keep wanting to buy something. It's mainly the laptop bag that DH will carry. I have a carry on for me that will be fine. But we have two Crumpler bags for our 17" laptop and even the smallest is 5 cm too long... It's hard to fine a bag that will fit a 17" widescreen laptop and be in the allowed dimensions. Part of the problem being that we like backpacks and not messenger bags or briefcase style bags. I have wondered if we only put the laptop in and it could easily be squished without force to be 5cm shorter if that would be ok. But I'm not risking it.

I went out and bought a bag but that was because it was pink and funky!!!

Recommended in a newspaper last sunday as being compatible with the new regulations for hand luggage size.

My Mum saw that and told me about it so was planning to have a look when I do my pre holiday shop in a couple of weeks, I see they having matching suitcases as well which I also need to buy!!!

Just measured my bag, off to Cyprus on Wednesday the width is ok as is the depth, if they measure the bag in the middle it is 143 cm across, but the base is slightly wider at 147 cm. What should I do?????
