Hi I have posted this before and i thank those that have responded.. Has anyone or anyones child been through this surgery?? My son had it done on Tuesday and its been a living hell. he is in 2 full leg casts ... SO much pain and respitory problems.. He was suppose to come home on thursday but was in the ICU tues-thurs,, we are hoping to get him home on sunday. I was just looking for some success stories for some reassurance.. so i know I did the right thing... any not so reassuring stories are welcomed as well... I cant find too much info on the iternet that goes with what Justin is going through.. thanks so much. Not sure if this should go on the community board or this one so I put it on this one.

This should go on the community board... but I'm sure it will be moved.... I'll just respond now.

My son has had TWO different releases done. One was just the heelcord.... the other was heel cord, hamstrings and adductors. Your right. It was horrible! Especially the first few days. We were told he would go home the day after the surgery..... One week later he was finally released from the hospital. After we got home (Hospital is 3 hours away) he got even SICKER and was admitted into a local hospital with a crappy pediatric unit. We stayed there ANOTHER week.

It was nothing short of a nightmare. His liver became enlarged because of one of the pain medications.... and he struggled in pain for days. He was only 6 years old.

Once we got home and got into a good routine... it was easier.

BENADRYL once he gets home! Stock up on BENADRYL!!!!!!! I can't say that enough. It will help him sleep at night and it will help with the itching he WILL experience while he's in the casts.

My son Jordan was casted for 8 weeks. They were HORRIBLE. I hated those casts and that bar holding his legs 19 inches apart!

My real nightmare came AFTER the casts came off. For months I thought we had made the wrong decision to have the surgery. My son could weight bare prior to the surgery....after the surgery he was like a little noodle. I cried for days wondering what we had done to him.

In hindsight, 2 years later it was worth EVERYTHING he endured. His gait now (in a gait trainer) is better than ever.

I know it's overwhelming right now.... but rest assured you are NOT alone. Please PM me if you want to talk or have more questions.
