Hampton Inn and Other Small Hotels Outside the Gate

We are thinking of going to Universal Studios and IOA for two days in December then heading over to WDW. I'd rather not spend a ton of money at the on-site hotels as we will be in the parks most of the day. I saw that Hampton Inn has queen beds and is close to US and IOA (free shuttle is provided). Has anybody stayed here and what were your comments on the place? Does anybody recommend another small hotel near the gate to go to (i.e. Double Tree, Sleep Inn, etc.)

Hello!
We just got home from a 4 day weekend and we stayed at the Comfort Suites on Major Blvd. We were very happy w/our stay there -- friendly, helpful staff, free breakfast, a fridge and micro in the room, a slightly larger room (suite), always clean, and free shuttle service daily. We'd highly recommend staying there, plus there are a few restaurants and a Walgreens all within walking distance as well!
