I have question about hamburger meat. I bought some hamburger meat Saturday and left it in the fridge. I am now wondering if any good to eat. It have been in the fridge four five days.

Is still good to make hamburgers out of. The hamburger meat don't smell.

What's hamburger meat?

Do you mean ground beef?

Is there a date on it or is it not the pre-packaged type?
I would think that 4 days would be too long, but maybe it depends on when it was ground up. If you bought it from the Deli, maybe you could call them and ask. Find out if they grind it the day they sell it or grind it ahead of time.

When I am not sure, I usually DON'T use it. I figure it's not worth getting sick from to save a little money. Hamburger is pretty cheap anyway.
So I say throw it away and eat out. :)

If it doesn't smell than go head and start grilling it. If it is bad you will know when it starts to cook.

I wouldn't use it, especially if it's more brown than red. I wonder if Monkeyboy is around. He knows all about bad meat.

If I was a tag fairy, I would put a tag under your name that says "The hamburger meat don't smell." :p

I don't know why that makes me laugh - it just does. :teeth:

oh- I wouldn't use it either.

You mean in some parts of the country "ground beef" and "hamburger meat" aren't synonyms ? Wow - the things we learn about other places on the DIS :teeth:. I pretty much use those phrases interchangeably.

I decide to throw out the hamburber meat. Went into the freezer and took out a new frozen bag hamburger meat and defrost it in the mirowave.

Thanks for answering my question.

Nope, my husband calls it chopped meat LOL

The freshness of it depends a lot on how cold your fridge is. Some are actually a lot colder than others. Hamburger meat/ground beef/chopped meat smells pretty nasty when it goes bad.

But personally, I still would not use it.

I've never heard of the three day rule, but it sounds reasonable. I think if you even have to question whether or not to eat it, you shouldn't eat it.

I think it's 2 days in the frig and it needs to be cooked or frozen. Like someone else said 3 days, that would my limit.

 I read this thread as "Hamburger Meet"......
"how....interesting..." I thought to myself!!!

If you got it at Bi-Lo, crazelion, I'd say it's probably a good thing to go ahead and throw it out. For some reason, their meats don't last too long in the fridge.

Blondie, it must be a regional thing. I call it hamburger meat too.:) Crazelion and I live in the same area.

I agree that I would have thrown it away. People in Oklahoma all say hamburger meat, too. I think it's so funny. After all you never talk about chicken breast meat or pork chop meat. I call it ground beef or hamburger, but I'm in the minority in these parts. :teeth:

I call my hamburger meat, ground turkey!:p I love ground turkey.;)

I probably wouldn't use it, but I wanted to comment on the post about the color. Hamburger/ground beef changes color due to the exposure to oxygen, called "blooming". It has nothing to do with whether or not it is bad. The best way to tell about hamburger is by smell. Trust me, you would know if it wasn't good because it will take on a very strange odor.
