I have some hamburger meat that had a sell by date of Tuesday. How can I tell if its still good? How long does it normally last after the sell by date? I used some of the meat for hotdog chili and put the rest in a ziplock bag.
In all the grocery stores around here, the "sell by" date for ground beef is no more than 24 hours after it was packaged and labeled. The policy is that the ground beef that is not sold within 24 hours is trashed. This is not true for other cuts of beef, fish, or chicken which often have dates several days out.
I do believe that the ground beef is okay for a few days after the sell-by date. So, go ahead and eat it.
No way. Hamburger meat is cheap enough to get new stuff. Certainly isn't worth a few bucks to get sick. I would like your recipe for hot dog chili though! LOL!
