I am going to be posting a lot, sorry! What happens at Disneyland on Halloween itself? Is that one of the special ticketed nights--what about the night before? Is it packed has the 30th and 31st as only "hey it's alright". Is that accurate??
we are trying to find a good late fall week to go that will minimize time off if work, so I am running all scenarios

There will be a Mickey's Halloween Party on the night of Oct. 31st. That is a separate ticketed event and DL will close early to all non-party guests. Read the first post of the Hallween Super Thread (http://www.disboards.com/threads/ha...iting-info-about-halloween-time-2015.3270919/) for more info on the party and on Hallween Time at DLR in general. There may also be a party on the 30th, since Halloween falls on a Saturday this year and there is usually a party on each Friday in October. The Halloween night party will sell out and be very crowded.

If you're looking for low crowds on the weekends in October, I think you're going to have a tough time. Between HalloweenTime and other activities/events, October is a very popular month in DLR.
The first weekend in October (10/2-10/4) is Gay Days; one of the largest unofficial events at DLR.
The second weekend in October (10/10-10/13) is Columbus Day Weekend (so a three-day weekend of a lot of folks), plus there is the 25th CHOC Children's Walk on Sunday (10/12).
The third weekend in October (10/15-10/18) is when the UEA Convention happens, which means most of the Utah schools are out of session.

As theluckyrabbit said, the MHP on Halloween night will sell out. It'll probably be one of the first parties to sell out, so if you do plan to go, you need to decide early on. (Last year it sold out in early September.)

My family spent Halloween day at DL a couple of years ago and loved it. We are planning to go this year the last week in Sept, so we are hoping to catch the party again. We essentially paid twice to get into DL on that Halloween. Sorry if I'm explaining myself poorly, but we used a regular ticket to enter the park early in the day. If we only had that ticket, we would have had to leave the park early. Once it came time to pick up our wristbands that proved we were ticket holders for the Halloween party, we were able to stay for the remainder of the evening. Park traffic was definitely light early in the day. The crowd increased noticeably, but by then we rode pretty much everything we wanted and were free to experience the party as we wished. I found that the lines for the candy went by really fast despite being very long, so don't let the line deter you from your candy! I think we only went through 3 different lines, but by then, our kid had plenty of sweets. I enjoyed the fire works show a lot. The parade seemed pretty short, but for us, that was the only criticism we had. Towards the end of the night, we were surprised to see a "good night" show featuring all the villains by the main train station. We didn't see it announced in our program, and felt lucky to have caught the show. It's really hard (and frustrating) to impress my husband, so if he has anything good to say about anything, you know it's worth it! It's also very cool to see the creative costumes other visitors come up with. I know you'll have a great time!
