*EDIT* I've noticed that this thread title is VERY similar to Ms Poppins', and there seems to be a lot of DISers who visited around the same time so apologies if any of this is repeating what others have posted!*

We've been back over a week now and I've finally got around to writing a TR.

My wife, Kathryn, and I (Paul) booked this trip way back in April and thanks to the "40% off" offer we were able to fulfil the long-held dream of staying at the Disneyland hotel
for 2 nights/3 days! We'd previously stayed at the the Santa Fe (Oct 2004), Sequoia Lodge (Oct 2005) and the Hotel New York (Feb 2009).

We caught the train on Tues night from Peterborough to London and stayed the night in the Hoxton Hotel and caught the tube to St Pancras in the morning, ready for our 09.53 Eurostar train to DLRP.

The Eurostar left on time and we had a pretty uneventful journey.
We arrived at Marne la Vallee at 13.30 (local time) and made our way to to the DLH with our luggage (we've used the Disney Express luggage service once before, and it just wasn't worth the hassle of queuing to drop the bags off and then wait for them at the other end, so we carried a bag each through the security check)

A brief wait in line to check in at the DLH and a great Spanish CM checked us in and said our room wouldn't be ready for an hour so we checked our luggage and made our way to the park...

Great pictures everywhere in the DLH!

Dumbo welcomes you at the DLH entrance (parkside)

Love the little details, like this wallpaper in the DLH lobby.

We got into the park at about 2.15 and we had clear blue skies.
First point of business was to get something to eat and we checked out Hakuna Matata and Colonel Haithi's Pizza outpost in Adventureland, then Fuente del Oro in Frontierland before settling on the Last Chance Cafe.

We hadn't eaten there before because it's always been closed during the colder months we've visited, but I guess it's new outdoor seating area means it can open more often. Kathryn had the Texan platter (chicken wings, onion rings, cheese and vegetable sticks) and I had had the very unadventurous chicken strips. Both were fine for a quick counter-service meal.

This was also the first of many times in the counter-service restaurants that I had to go back and ask for various condiments, as they don't automatically give you salt, ketchup etc and they don't have them available in the dining area. I had to join the queue again, so a top tip is always make sure you've got everything you need before leaving the counter!

Blue skies over the obligatory entrance photo.

This pic is my new desktop wallpaper!

Teepees at the Frontierland entrance - I've never noticed before how close you can get to them.

Whatever happened to the huge ghost that used to pull the riverboat during the Halloween season?

Then it was on to Phantom Manor, where there were villains galore outside.
We saw Prince John, Sheriff Of Nottingham, Maleficent and the Snow White Hag but the crowds were too fierce to brave so we joined the queue for PM.
We were in the stretching room within 10mins and glad to be in the warm!

The ride stopped briefly 3 times whilst we were on it (once in the pitch black bit just before the singing busts!) and all effects were in fine working order, except for the phantom figure in the ballroom scene who was static and had his spotlight turned off.
I love this attraction and this was the first time we were able to ride since 2005, as it was closed for refurb last time we visited.

After we'd exited the Manor it was time to head back to the hotel and get into our room...

Great start to your TR, and can't wait to hear more about your stay (especially the DLH!)
P.s. don't apologise, you can never have too many trip reports!

That wallpaper looks fabulous! Wish I could have that at home for the subtle and sophisticated Disney touch ;)

Great start, can't wait to hear more! :goodvibes

So we checked in quickly and smoothly, although we had a difficult time requesting a kettel - the CM spoke great English (better than my French, anyway!) - but he didn't know what a kettle was until we explained what we wanted it for. He made sure to note our request, in French, and said the kettle and the luggage would be delivered to our room asap.

The room was one, as per my request when we booked, with a king bed.
It was my birthday not long after we got home and I'd mentioned to the CM booking us in that it was a trip to celebrate my birthday.

I was pleased and surprised to find this on the TV in the room (the spelling mistakes only make it more fun in my opinion.)

We spent the next few minutes oohing and aahing over the room and here's some pics taken at various times during our stay:

More soon...

The DLH looks wonderful!:goodvibes

Did you think it was worth the extra to stay there? I've been wanting to book a stay but keep hesitating but I imagine I will at some point! It looks magical! :wizard:

Looking forward to more trip report!popcorn::

If you can get the 40% off deal like we did, then it's worth it (just).
The location is brilliant, but the room wasn't a massive leap up from the one we had in Hotel New York - next time I'd perhaps stay an extra night at HNY rather than spend my visit at the DLH. Maybe.

More pics coming this evening....

Oh, bringing back loads of lovely memories of the DLH! Glad you liked it - I'd agree about HNY, that's our favourite - but we loved our stay at DLH this time. Love the flat screen tv - we didn't get one of those.

And don't ever apologise for posting the same stuff twice :rotfl::rotfl:

More please ;)

Brilliant start! The DLH is so lovely we did get to stay here in 2007 & 2008 but opted for the HNY in 2010 and liked it so much am returning in 2011! - the extra day for the same money was too big a lure!

Your photos are bringing back some lovely memories and pushing up the excitement a notch for our 2011 trip!

Thanks for sharing!

Sorry for the delay in getting more TR done, but here it is at last-

Day One Continued

We hung on for about 15mins for our luggage, but decided that we'd go exploring the hotel rather than sitting around waiting, so we headed for the gift shop.

Even the lifts at the DLH have a classy touch!

It's great to see Bugs Life getting some love too!

The "Nightmare Before Christmas" range nearly suckered my into the Vinylmation craze.

When we went back to our room the luggage still hadn't arrived, but the kettle had.
Kathryn got on with the important job of making a brew whilst I went down to the lobby to enquire about our bags.
I also checked with the concierge that the dining reservations I had made in advance were all still in the system and she printed out the confirmation slips for me.
I caused some confusion by referring to the "Cape May Cafe" when I meant "Cape Cod", but in my defence these two restaurants are very similar, even if one is in WDW!
Turns out me and the bags missed each other and they arrived seconds after I got back to the room.
A quick unpack and then it's off to the park...

DSC00222.jpg

Look who we bumped into in the lobby!

By now it was getting late and with only a couple of hours until the park closed, we hit Pirates and then watched the parade form the Frontierland entrance.
There were a lot of guests climbing over the fence to stand on the grass hills, and a couple of people who hoisted their kids onto their shoulders and then stood right in front us!
Bad guest behaviour didn't spoil the parade, but it did prevent me getting any decent photos.
I liked the Halloween additions to the parade, but was disappointed that they'd removed the stops to accommodate them.

After that we walked through Frontierland to check out the Halloween decorations and noticed from the guide that these guys were still out for a meet n greet:

By now the park was winding down so we made our way down Main Street looking for some snacks that would tide us over until our dinner reservation at Cape Cod.
We decided upon the Cable Car Bake Shop, and it quickly become our refreshment stop of choice.

And as the park began closing we made our way to our room to get ready for dinner.

I love the park at dusk.
