Hello everybody!!
My bf and I are trying to plan a trip to DL in either Sept or Oct for 1-2 days. I am aware of all the stuff going on in Oct for Halloween, and we have not yet decided if we want to attend one of the Halloween parties. We will be in the park(s) on a Monday only if we do 1 day, or we if choose 2 days it will be Mon & Tues (therefore we would do the event if we decide on Oct). Attending the event is not a major issue to us. What I am wondering is if any SoCal school districts have time off in October that may create a busier park? If we decide on Sept, I am aware HM will be closed for the overlay, but will SM be as well? Anything else possibly?

Thank you for any help!

Also, how do I update my signature? Its been so long since I've been on this board!! Lol

Check out the Halloween Superthread to answer all your questions about Halloween time at DLR. This year, Halloween season starts on Sep 16th, so you may be in luck to see everything decked out if you go after then. And yes, there are lots of school breaks that time of year, from Utah and Arizona, that seem to make the park busier. But Halloween is still a very fun time to go. I would definitely choose two days if at all possible, due to the increased crowds that October has seen the last couple of years. HTH! :thumbsup2

Thank you, that helped a lot.

Although I was still unable to find information about what rides other than HM may be closed for the overlay in Sept. I didn't know until today that SM had a Halloween theme, so I'm not entirely sure that it closes or for approx how long.

If we decide to do the Halloween event, I am leaning toward Oct 17-18.

HMH looks like it will be closed Aug 29 - Sep 15, and SM will be closed Sep 12-15 for the holiday overlays.

This was posted by another DISer the other day and might help you make a more informed decision if rides are a huge factor for you. There are going to be a lot of rides down for refurb at different points this fall. But- very little has been confirmed by Disney publicly, so bear that in mind, and remember that all things are subject to change.

Kim -

thank you so much for the Halloween Superthread referral!:goodvibes I see there are lots of questions beginning to pop up about both Halloween and Christmas on this forum and those 2 threads will cover a lot of ground for Halloween and Christmas visitors!

dizneekrazee -

This thread/poll about October school breaks this year (by specialks) is very revealing and informative. I'm really glad she thought to start it because we had already assumed that DLR was expecting the first 2 weeks of October to be busy based on a couple of different things, but seeing the actual poll responses confirmed it for us!

There are actually only 2 rides which go down for a Halloween overlay each year - HMH and SMGG. Space Mountain is down for a very short time, and Haunted Mansion gets the major overhaul. But there are all kinds of rides (as jernysgirl mentioned above) which are rumored to be down for refurb this year, during the fall, so that will differ each year.

Thanks guys!

I am aware many rides close for refurb at that time, just those are 2 major rides so mostly curious about those. I will of course be checking the Disneyland website periodically for updates. We are going in August as well with the kids, so missing rides here & there aren't too big of an issue since we would have just been there. I am aware Matterhorn will be closed in August (& I don't mind, it shakes my brains around!!) SM is just one of the rides I would like to see done over, so I just wanted to check specifically for it.
