Halloween Party Game ideas

The kids wanted to have a Halloween party, I said ok. We have 16 kids including mine. Kids ages range from 10 to 4 years old. My SIL agreed to help with activities. I ran a search on the Internet for Halloween party games. I am trying to keep the games easy for the 4 year olds ,but not boring for the 10 yo's. I was thinking about splitting them into two teams and letting them come up with a team name, then the two teams will compete with each game. I found games like, pass the pumpkin under the chin, witches ESP (kids each pick a colored spider from a container, the witch has to guess what color each kid is holding), wrap one member of the team as a mummy with TP, and cut up skeleton pieces and they have to put the skelton together first team done wins. What do you think? Any ideas for more games to fill in the time.

We are Halloween FREAKS and are told that we have the best parties ever. This is not actually a game but is always the one thing the kids go craziest for.

We make a monster for examining. I take a large roasting pan and put pasta for guts, a water balloon for a heart, some peeled pears for lungs, a peeled plum for a liver, etc and we get loofahs (long hairy spongy) found in the produce section and we create a body with all the parts - we use the filled roaster for the torso and the loofas for arms and legs. Then we cover the whole thing with a sheet and make it bloody with red food coloring. Cut small holes, just big enough for little hands to REACH in but not SEE in, in the sheet in the right places so that they can reach their hands in andfeel the "organs". We usually have a clipboard with a list of all the body parts they are looking for (giggly guts, hairy legs, etc) hanging on the wall next to the monster and we use a skeleton or stuffed mask for the head (this is the only thing that isn't covered by the sheet).

The kids LOVE this and we do different varaitions every year. It usually keeps them busy for quite a while.

We also make a fake fire with foam and sit around it and tell creepy chain stories - even the youngest kids enjoy adding their spooky thought to the story as it goes around the group.

We have a halloween party ever year and here are a couple of games that my kids enjoy (they are 7 and 10). Take a big flat rubbermaid container (I use a plastic blow up coffin from walmart.) Fill with a couple of inches of water and put in some gummy candy worms and have the kids take turns gettting the gummy worms out with bare feet. It sounds easy but once they are wet it is pretty hard. Then when they all take a turn, after keeping track who got the most out, announce the winner and tell them the winner has to eat them now. You want to hear a few eeewwwwws.
Another is eating donuts off of a string. Tie donuts with a hole in the centre, I usually have 2 do this at the same time. Tie the string to a stick and have 2 people hold the stick up. It is a good idea to have 2 kids about the same height. The kids must keep hands behind there backs. See who can eat it the quickest. Even if it falls on the floor they must continue, play in an area that this is possible.

OP, I think your ideas are good! If you need to fill more time, you could add a pumpkin hunt - like an easter egg hunt in your yard, but with mini pumpkins or gourds. (The kids could even decorate them after with markers.) Or you could play "freeze dance" with songs like Monster Mash.

I'm not sure how many chaperones you have or what type of area you live in. What about dividing the kids into teams (mix all the ages) and sending them on a scavenger hunt? If the kids are wearing costumes, this could be fun for your neighbors to see, too.

You could even enhance it by having the chaperone carry a digital camera. The teams could then have to find things to take photos of, ie. a black cat, a witch's hat, a carved jack-o-lantern.

There is always the traditional bobbing for apples or eating apples from a string without using hands.

Maybe pumpkin bowling using a plastic pumpkin. The bumpy exterior makes it more difficult to hit the pins.

Here is something fun for kids -

Take larger sized balloons and before you blow them up push small pieces of candy into the balloon (candy that you would fill a pinata with, like tooties rolls and the like) then blow up the balloons so that they are big enough to sit or lay on, tie them off and then have the kids try to break them without using their hands or their feet. They can lay on them, sit on them etc... they will burst and they get a little suprise when they pop! This is great especially with the younger ones (4-7 yrs).

I second the donut idea too - kids love that as well.

With a wide range of age groups 4-10 it is best to keep games simple with easy to follow instructions.

Donut on a string. I like the the donut on a string idea. We do that at our parties too. The bobbin for apples is out for us because nowadays with koodies, allergies, etc. That would not be sanitary unless you were getting a clean pan of water every time.

Guessing Game. What about filling several boxes with slimy, fun halloween stuff in each box and the kids have to guess what's inside. Give them an added challenge by blindfolding them.

Skeleton Limbo. Another fun one to tie in with fun Halloween music, is doing a Halloween limbo using a skeleton leg as the "limbo" and they have to do a scary walk/limbo dance.

Ghost Volley Ball. Blow up 1 small balloon. Cover with white large tissue paper to make them look like ghosts. Color eyes on them. Divide kids into 2 teams. Have them "volley" the ghost back and forth over a dividing line. Whoever drops the "ghost" first loses the ghost and the other team gets a point. Have extra ghosts on hand.

Dress a scarecrow. Get 2 scarecrows. Take off all clothes. Scatter clothes all over lawn. Add in extra funny costume options, like princess dresses, pirate hats, daggers, ballerina tutus, policeman hats, etc. Divide groups into 2. Start timer. Groups have to quickly dress their scarecrow and see what they come up with at the end of the time. Each scrarecrow has to have a hat, shirt, dress, shoes and 1 accessory. Take picture of their funny scarecrow outfits! Guaranteed tons of giggles!

I love mummy wrap!! Volunteer the dads to be the mummys, break the kids into teams and using toliet paper wrap the dads. We wrapped four dads last year, head to toe and plan on doing that again this year.

Spider Web - Take thick string or yarn and cut into 10 - 15 ft. lengths. One length for each guest. Tie all the strings to one center point and then tangle together, as easy or hard depending on the ages. Over chairs, around table legs etc. The guests could be divided by age or into 1+ teams as needed.

Pumpkin Toss - Like ring toss only with hula hoops and pumpkins! Can number the pumpkins for distance and add up the scores.

Mummy Wrap - We are doing this, and we are fortunate enough to have 4" wide thin foam wrapping material, so it won't tear as easily as the T.P.

Thank you everyone for the great ideas! We did have the usual back up games ready like Musical chairs, and limbo. I was thinking about playing dance songs for the kids like chicken dance, YMCA, and the kids seem to like that Casper Cha Cha slide. I was just trying to think of different things instead of the same old, same old. We are also having food so that will take up some time. I sure these ideas really will help. It is greatly appreciated.
