We are wanting to have one of our days just be the Halloween Party and not buy any other park pass that day. We are really not interested in the actual events of the party or dressing up, what we want is short lines for the rides. My kids are 17 & 10 and we were hoping we could just pop on a lot of rides with short waits. Is this the case? Also are there any rides that are closed during the party time? Thanks for your help.

Take a look at the MHP FAQ (Question #13) in the third post of the HalloweenTime SuperThread for information about the attractions. My general sense is that attraction lines are, for the most part, fairly short during the party, but not all of them are going to be walk-on (especially things like Haunted Mansion and Space which have Halloween overlays). A lot of guests go to the party to do the party specific activities, but a goodly number also go to ride attractions, so there will be lines (some very short, some fairly lengthy).

Last year we had a 5 day PH plus a day for just MHP. Outside of our first day in the park which was a Wed the night of MHP (a Fri) was by far the best for short ride lines. DH said next year we should just go to 3 MHP and skip the regular ticket because we got to go on so many rides in such a short time lol.

When we went a couple of years ago we felt the lines weren't any shorter during the party.
If your teens want short lines go for rope drop.

The party does have a fun flare to it. We really enjoyed all the villain characters.

I've done the party twice and not found the lines to be all that much shorter than a regular day/night. I find the parties very crowded, at least the last one we did was.

There is no guarantee that ride lines will be short (by short, do you mean walk on?) during MHP. Some people have posted that they were very disappointed that they had to wait in lines at all at a party. The lines should get shorter as the night gets later, especially on week nights when people have to go to work or school the next morning. But if the only reason you want to go is to guarantee short lines, I agree with the above poster that being at rope drop is a better option.
We've attended a party where some rides were closed due to rain. But other than that, most rides are usually open.
