For those who have cruised during the Halloween on the High Seas event, is it a good fun event for kids?

Do they get to trick or treat on one specific night?

Yes, there is a little trick or treating (just around the atrium). And all rooms that have a child get a bag of goodies in their rooms.

With kids - they'll probably love it. We've only done the Halloween cruises as an adult couple, and we pretty much avoid all the Halloween activities.

We didnt get treats in our room but our DD got to watch the halloween show in the lobby and then there were candy stations around the lobby, guest services desk and back by the golden mickeys poster near the theater for the kids to trick or treat. this was on the Dream and it was mobbed as you can imagine.

On our cruise, the group also had its own candy exchange. Some were disappointed with DCL's touted trick or treating. As adult travelers, we did not participate, but were offered candy as we walked by the tables handing out candy. There were GF/ nut free options and stickers being given out as well.

I have been on 2 Halloween on the High Seas sailings, once we were onboard (the Magic) for Halloween day and the other (the Wonder) we were on earlier in the month. There is a specific night for "trick or treating" but my 3 kids (ages 5-10) thought it was lame. It is so crowded that you could barely walk around, let alone see the tables that were set up as stations. When you did find a table, it was just that - a table to grab candy from. They felt like it didn't compare with trick or treating at home, so I don't think we will be onboard for the actual day anymore.

We had a lot of fun on our recent Halloween cruise. We didn't find the DCL organized trick or treating to be worth it, but we enjoyed a lot of the other activities. On our cruise meet up we organized a room to room trick or treat and that was a big hit and a lot of fun. We gave our stateroom host the leftover candy and he was OVERJOYED. It was great. :)

My complete trip report is here if you want to read about our experiences on the Magic with a 7 year old DD: http://www.disboards.com/threads/disney-magic-oct-23-28-halloween-on-the-high-seas-5-night.3460709/

So from what I gather, it may be best to just go sometime in Oct but not necessary to cruise on the day of Halloween.

Pretty much anytime from early September through the cruise that goes over Halloween will have the Halloween activities.

We loved the dressing up in costumes part as a family. Looking at others costumes was great fun too. We didn't take part in the tree growing pumpkins or other events outside of the meager trick or treating. It is a fun different activity added to the normal cruise stuff. I certainly wouldn't pay extra for a cruise with the event on it. I also wouldn't go out of my way to book a cruise during this time. But if my weeks were flexible, I wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

We did our first cruise ever with Disney during September of last year with Halloween on the High Seas on the Dream (just my wife and I) we brought out costumes and went to the Halloween festivities. All were fun and we just booked for the same time this year. We did decide, however, we aren't going to dress up for this one. Not many adults were in costume so we felt a little out of place but other than that the added Halloween activities were definitely cute.
