Halloween-oh-ween Trip Report

OK, this is my trip report. We have been in the resort from Sunday 2. October – Wednesday 5. October 2005. At 8am we arrived at the Sequoia Lodge to be at 9am in the park, because on weekends the park opens at 9am (so we thought). And when we left the yellow busses at 8:30 I was surprised that almost nobody was there. And then we found out why. They changed the opening times of the park. And from now on the Disneyland Park opens also at 10am at weekends! Only in high season the park will open at 9am. Another change for the worse!
Until the opening of the park we decided to have a look at the Disneyland Hotel. And in the shop of the hotel I had the only discussion about the 15% discount for shareholders during the whole trip. The CM wanted to give me only 10% on my PM pin. But after a short discussion she gave me 15%. In all other shops and restaurants I got the 15% directly.
And then finally the park opened at 9:30 the gates and I saw the first time the really impressive Halloween decoration. Everything was prepared so lovingly. The only word that came to my mind was DISNEY! :wizard: And then at 10am the gates to Frontierland opened and we were even more impressed. There was this huge “machine” between BTM-island and the land.
Only the decoration was worth the trip. I read some posts in other boards that Eurodisney would only waste money with all the decoration – but I have to say we only booked this trip to see the decoration! If there would have been no Halloween in DLRP we wouldn’t have gone to visit the resort! (what a heavy sentence in English! I hope there are no grammar mistakes in it?)
After some of our favourite rides (BTM, PM, POTC) and Saloon Mickey, we had a reservation for the Auberge de Cendrillon. And that was another little disappointment because they still offer the buffet for 22€. Don’t get me wrong the food was good, but I was looking forward to eat a la carte, because this was my 10th visit to the resort. And I wanted to eat the Pantoufle de Cendrillon again. Hopefully they will change the Auberge soon to an a la carte restaurant again. But I think what Renate told me is true: the more buffet restaurants they got, the cheaper it is for Eurodisney to operate the restaurants because they need not that much well educated waiters and cooks.
After that lunch it was time for the parade. And what can I say, I love the princess parade, and I do love the Halloween parade. It is great to see all the characters you usually don’t see during the year; like Gaston or Donald as devil.
After the parade we were in the studios, and while we wanted to go again to the Disneyland park it started to rain for about ten minutes. And so we spent this time with the two bears from “brother bear”, because of the rain they could not escape from the shop. And so we (8 people) had them just for us. What a fun! And when the sun came out again, I even saw a rainbow over the studios! I know, this was a sign from above, and it means that the studios will become very successful in the future! :cloud9:
We ended the day in the park, and at 8:30pm we met Renate and her husband, and the other guys at the bar in the Hotel New York. It was a real nice evening. And by the way I wanted to thank Renate again, because she booked the whole trip for us, and because of her effort we even got a free upgrade to a room with lake view at the Sequoia Lodge! Merci bien, Renate! :love1:
The next day was less crowded because it was Monday. And until Wednesday the parks were almost empty. No waiting time for Star Tours, HISTA, PM, POTC and many others. But although there were so many characters during these days, sometimes we got the impression that there were more character, witches and pumpkin men than visitors. ;) I got so many nice pictures with characters. And a very special one: me with Minnie, Mickey and Goofy. I met them all in Adventureland, and because of the fact that Adventureland is not as crowded as Mainstreet you get more opportunities to have a nice picture with them. I also got a picture of Mickey kissing Minnie. It was just great, I could have spent hours with the characters. Mickey was very sweet. She spent almost 10 minutes with a mother and her little daughter in the stroller. And I HEARD her making shhhhh to the little girl! (Is that allowed?) ;)
On the afternoon of this Tuesday we took the train to Frontierland, and we found out that the whole Frontierland was transformed into Halloween Land. Near the train station you could find the tree were the pumpkin men were “growing to live”! I’m always impressed by the many ideas the people from Disney have. And everything is covered by a story. (Like the pumpkin-men-tree or the colour machine were they relive the orange colour)

OK, this was the first part of my trip report, the second part and some pictures will follow if someone is interested! ;-)

That was a very interesting trip report Marcus - thank you for taking the trouble to write all that in English - very good English too!!! We loved Halloween too when we went last year - the decorations are wonderful and, as you said, there are so mnay characters about and so few guests that you get plenty of interaction.
Looking forward very much to the next part and to seeing your pictures!

Marcus great report. Sounds that you had a good start to your trip, along with the room upgrade :)

What bliss to have all that time with the bears! :cloud9: And yes, I know some people find it is lacking, but I loved the Studios and am sure TOT can only help it! :wizard:

Lovely report Marcus, excellent English, looking forward to the next part.:goodvibes Halloween sounds and looks such good fun, we will have to go there one year.

Thanks for the complements, and yes the evening with the cocktails at the Hotel New York Bar was really great. :grouphug: as there were 9 DLRP-Fans from Germany and Switzerland meeting for the first time and it felt like yo know them all your whole lifetime.

Greets Renate :wizard:

Thank you Marcus - that was wonderful!! Can't wait for the next part. :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the great report!

Of course we are all VERY interested!:rotfl2:
I think that you are correct about the seasonal decorations, they look great and I'm sure many return visitors do care about the effort Disney make. Your English is very good and the small imperfections just make your report more interesting and personal.

Its a shame about the menu at Auberge. I suppose at less busy times there just isn't the demand for A La Carte. I was considering putting that Restaurant on my list for my January visit but will probably go for Blue Lagoon instead. Looking forward to your next installment.

Regards
Rosie

Great Report

We were there at the end of Sep and enjoyed watching new pumpkin men and witches appear each day in readiness for Hallowe'en season.

You written English is superb !! :cheer2:
