How about some suggestions for cute/fun/family friendly halloween type movies?

I want to have a halloween movie night this weekend with DH to get us in the spirit of the season and have already thought maybe about watching little shop of horrors .. but I'd like some more family type spooky shows... cartoons would be great as well!

thanks so much!

Hi - my kids like:

The Haunted Mansion
Halloweentown
Beetlejuice
Nightmare Before Christmas

That's all I can think of right now..I'll see if I can come-up with some more ;)

Your kids and my kids have the same taste :)

Our kids also love Hocus Pocus with Bette Middler and Sarah Jessica Parker. Spooky, but crazy funny :)

thanks for the ideas so far! I've never heard of halloweentown!

oldtimers but still great

The Goonies
Drop Dead Fred
Little Monsters
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Casper
The Black Cauldron

Have Fun!!!!

Oh yeah and Alvin and the Chipmunks meet Frankenstein and Alvin and the Chipmunks meet the Wolfman.

We LOVE "Hocus Pocus", and the Peanut's Halloween special ("It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"). They are both appropriate for family viewing. The original Harry Potter movie ("Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone") is a good one for at Halloween time also. And although I haven't personally seen it yet, the animated feature "Monster House" looks really promising.

For the more mature family members, who enjoy things a bit more on the scary side, "Sleepy Hollow" (starring Jonny Depp) is a frightfully fun twist on the short story (though it does get a bit bloody at times, and the side story about his mother's gruesome death is rather disturbing--so consider yourself forewarned).

Love most of the movies mentioned plus a family favorite The Ghost and Mr Chicken.

My DS8 and DD5 like Monster House, Halloweentown, Little Vampire, Pooh's Heffalump, the Adams Family, Casper.

OOH! I love Hocus Pocus and haven't seen it in so long! I think someone else mentioned it already above as well.. I don't know if DH would be into though but I personally love it! DH really loves any Peanut's cartoons though so that is a great suggestion as well.... and DH and I both are big Johnny Depp fans and I don't think he has seen Sleepy Hollow yet (though I have) so that's another totally do-able movie! thanks!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Don Knotts!!!! :lovestruc and you know what.. I haven't seen this one yet! ooohh.. you all have given me such great ideas!!!

I think on friday, my day off, I will get the movies, pop some popcorn or make some popcorn balls or something halloween-ish.... light some candles.. and we will have a halloween movie night date!!!! how fun! :woohoo: :scared1: popcorn::

thanks again everyone! I'm thinking I may start making this a household tradition every friday before halloween... just to get us ready for the upcoming week! I think it would be fun thing to do once we have kids as well! I love halloween!!!!!

Alot of great movies have already been listed.

I am not sure if I missed the two new Goosebumps movies--Mostly Ghostly and The Haunting Hour, they are both very good Halloween movies.

DH & DS thought of a couple more movies that they wanted me to add...

An old classic, B&W movie that is set at Halloween time -- "Arsenic & Old Lace". How I could have forgotten to list that one, I don't know. It is a real treat to watch, despite it's age.

And DS suggested "The Burbs" (w. Tom Hank). Not really Haloween themed... but does involve creepy neighbors who appear to be up to no good. Very, very funny... especially if you've ever lived in a typical suburban neighborhood. Has several really good twists in the plot towards the end.

I just thought of one myself... and it's a disney movie... "the watcher in the woods" .... I remember it being really creepy when I was a kid!

Watcher in the Woods made me think of Witch Mountain and Escape from Witch Mountain too. I loved those movies when I was a kid.

witch mnt was one of my favorites as well! I especially loved it when they moved into the rich guys house and got to see their new room with all the toys!

old disney movies are the best.. I wish they would do things like this again... darker subject matter, etc.

here's a link to the trailer of "watcher in the woods"

ooh, I'm getting so excited for my halloween movie night tomorrow! I already rented "psycho" from my library and tomorrow I'm getting all the food stuff together.. I'm going to surprise my husband with dead man fingers for snacks (pigs in a blanket) and make some halloween rice crispie treats and decorate the living room a little bit.. then I'll see if I can rent a few family movies that you all have recommended for watching friday night! thanks again everyone!

One of my favorite's is Disney's TOT with Steve Gutenberg and Kristen Dunst. I Love this movie.
:cheer2:

Something Wicked This Way Comes (we ordered it from Disney Movie Club) and it had me on the edge of my seat.

Twitches I and II
