Halloween horror nights

Unless you are very tolerant of waiting in line, I recommend you either get the express pass or RIP tour. After my wife and I went to our first HHN, we both decided that the Express Pass was part of the cost of going, and if we couldn't afford to get tix with express, then we couldn't afford to go. I don't mind walking a lot, but I can't stand waiting in long, slow moving lines. Obviously many people don't mind waiting in line, because there's a lot of them doing it.

What is the best plan for staying onsite? I know that HHN is a hard ticket event, but is there some kind of deal if you use a resort onsite?

They're selling 3 night stay packages right now that include a ticket for one night of HHN. Not sure if it saves you anything, but it's the simplest way of booking if you're coming specifically for HHN.

Being onsite definitely saves you the trouble of arriving and parking on the day you are doing HHN.

If you've never done HHN, or even if you have, I definitely recommend doing the RIP tour. Also, consider doing the Unmasking the Horror tours during the daytime.

I have done HHN's, twice, while staying at Disney. I bought the express pass for one night and then the "go every night" for a certain number of nights....can't remember what that's called. But if I stay onsite, I will definitely go more than twice! So...not sure if the one HHN ticket saves any money? Also...what is the RIP tour? And the Unmasking Horror tour? Any info is greatly appreciated. I don't want to miss a thing. Not doing Disney this time...just Universal and HHN.

RIP tour- you will be in a small group, about 8-10 as I recall. You will have a Universal guide escort your group around the park, to the front of the line of every house. You don't even wait in the Express line. While walking between houses you'll pass through the scare zones.

Unmasking the Horror- during the daytime you would tour a selection of the houses with lights on, and get a lot of information about how the houses are set up and operated. Last year there were two sessions each day, with three houses covered on each. The sessions were timed so you could do both in one day.

To me it's the convenience you have with it!
First off, if you are an Annual Passholder, you get discounts for rooms. If you aren't an APH no sweat, you still have the resort perks to use for the parks.
Onsite hotels have a different entrance to the event, if you aren't in the park already, so the lines to get in are less than at the normal gate.

If you will be attending the park during the day, even better, since you can head back to the resort at noon if you would like a break and come back later for the event. You can also charge drinks, food, souveniers to your room instead of paying cash or cc at every corner.
Also, you don't have to carry souveniers around since they could send them to the resort (depends on your stay length whether there is sufficient time to get it there).

For me, once I leave the park at the wee hours of of the morning (12-2am) with a few drinks in me :rolleyes1 , no need to worry about driving, catching cabs, extra cash, since transportation to the resort is available... oh, so convenient..

Cheers! :drinking1

And the Unmasking Horror tour? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Unmasking the Horror Tour is a must!!!!!!! You get a guided "lights on" walkthrough of three houses (if you take the morning tour) or three different houses (afternoon tour) or all six houses (both tours) where you are able to take pictures inside the houses (something you cannot do during the event) and see how everything works, ask questions, and notice EVERYTHING you miss out during the night when the houses are dark and not notice things.

Wow...I would love to do Unmasking the Horror...but only after experiencing the horror a few nights. Where in the park do you go for this? Is it a separate cost? Also is the RIP tour expensive?

Yes, Unmasking the Horror is a separate cost. You meet at the front of Universal Studios, there is a Guest Services office you check in at if I'm remembering properly.

I don't remember exactly, but I believe the RIP cost was $100something for the night. Totally worth it as far as I'm concerned.

i do the unmasking the horror for both day tours.
i enjoy seeing the houses with the lights on and all the little details it has.
can also see where the boo holes are and the way the house follows thru with the main theme.

you wil receive very interesting information on the background of the houses you tour in the day time.
last few years, there were 6 houses, 3 in each session, that you have the guide for the walk thru.

when i do the houses in the evening, i have a good idea of what to expect inside.

no prices, dates or hours have been released yet on the unmask the horror tours or the evening hhn public tours.
the cost depends on which tour you book and day of the week also factors into the price.

i book the private rip hhn tour which is from 7 pm to 2 am

tours have a limit to number of peeps in them.

Last year I did both Unmasking sessions, and the non-private RIP tour. Considering the Private RIP this year, depending on price.

We enjoyed the unmasking last year and always enjoy the private RIP tour, plus great homies!

the private rip hhn tours cost more than the public ones.
fri/sat night tours costs more than the thur/sun dates.
i book the 7 hour tour and invite friends to join me.

the other tours can be 3 or 4 hours long.
don't remember the specifics of longer tours as i haven't done the public ones in some time.
if the group you want to be with is small, you all can request to be together in the same tour.

it is a great way to see the houses/shows in the park.
money well spent.

So...do you buy separate tickets on the website for the RIP and Unmasking the Horror Events? I'm just getting tooooo excited!

Yes. They should come up under the Upgrades section when they become available.
Most likely though, which houses will be covered in the Unmasking tours will be unknown. As I remember last year, which you end up seeing can come down to a decision by Universal on any particular morning depending on if work is being done in the houses, etc.

I'd be good with whatever I get to see! Thanks for the info. When do the tickets typically come out?

I don't remember the time frame from last year. Universal customer service doesn't seem to know, or be allowed to tell when they'll go onsale.

If I had to guess, within a month, definitely by the end of July. But I'm hoping the info may be out within the next two weeks.
