Halloween DAY - what should we do? DTD?

We aren't going to go to MNSSHP (decided that a long time ago) and are doing it on the 30th.

BUT - I don't want the kids to feel deprived on Halloween either.

How are the parks on Halloween Day? Is it something we should avoid because of crowd level, or is it primarily just a MNSSHP crowd?

Has anyone been to the festivities at DTD? Are the "Events" scheduled or is it more of an informal, walk around and see what you see - and if you ask at the counter of the store they have a package of smarties for the trick or treaters type of thing?

We have some events at our hotel (nick) and I was actually considering just staying there, but again, I don't want the kids to be sad that they missed their Halloween-y things back home.

Halloween day itself didn't seem to change the day crowds at all. We went in 2003. In the evening there is activities at DTD and the Boardwalk.

I went through the not-at-home holiday depression w/ my son. He was 10 and I will tell you-- he was really disappointed. I guess we forget how big a deal halloween and trick-or-treating is to them.

If I were to be in that situation again I'd try to get some info from some local Diser's on a "safe" development to trick-or-treat in. May be an unpopular idea- but I think I'd lean that way.

I know our hotel offers trick or treating, and a dance party, and crafts, and something else that I can't remember, but I also want them to get that Halloween vibe all day :)

Do kids still dress up during the day on Halloween at the parks - is there any trick or treating that goes on?

Maybe I should just fib and tell them the 30th is Halloween ;) LOL

nah - the oldest will know.

I guess we'll just plan it as a park day and they can wear their Casper halloween shirts or something during the day :confused3

I live about 10 minutes from WDW property in a very nice development with lots of children. If you would prefer, I could PM you directions to my development. No one is going to be bothered by an additional child on Halloween.

aw - that's really sweet - sure, the directions would be nice :)

I'm still hoping to do something "Disney" since we'll be at the parks - but I also want to do something "halloween-y".

<sigh> So conflicted ;)

Any other ideas about DTD - has anyone been there?

I can answer both of the previous questions. Yes, we are having some activities at DTD on the 30th and 31st. There will be trick or treating at certain stores both evenings. Last year, it was from 7 to 9 I think, but I believe they expanded it this year. I don't have my tellacast handy (I am at the office, not home), but there maybe something about it in there, I will have to check later.

You go in to the stores taking part in the event and they will have an area set up for the t or t. I worked in Pooh Corner last year, and we had it set up on the "porch" which they will probably do again this year. We had a caldron of candy (not as big as some you see at MNSSHP), which we kept filling up and giving candy out. My back went through the ringer from all that bending over! But it was fun! They let us dress up last year (although no one told me), so you might see some cast mamabers in different outfits than normal. All in all, I think you will have fun if you do this. I am sure they will have activites at the DJ stage area outside WOD, so make an evening of it.

Enjoy yoru trip!

I have only seen little girls in princess dresses (just like always) even on Halloween. Unless you are doing the party that night, you won't even realize it's halloween in the parks except maybe at some of the stores with some of the merchandise for sale. Trick or Treating only at the party in the MK.

See, now I know that's inaccurate - because on the Disney site it specifically says that there are festivities in Downtown Disney.

You might check out the Camping at Fort Wilderness forum. They have a Haunted Hayride that could be loads of fun. They also have the campfire with story telling and smores. Also, people are posting over there that kids trick or treat at the cabins. Could be a fun Disney evening. And, I think you get to see the Fireworks on the Hayride!

If your spending time at WDW, I would suggest that whatever your kids do on Halloween, they won't be deprived!!!!!

My son is 12 on Halloween this year. Even so we (he) chose to do the Halloween party on 25th - 31st is likely to be gridlock

For his birthday, we have booked character breakfast at chef mickeys (his choice), followed by a visit to the park of his choice - to be decided , and dinner at a restaurant of his choice - to be decided.

On the Dis homepage they list an update to the halloween party and if you click on that link they list the things going on at DTD. There is trick or treating at the stores and stilt walkers, magicians, balloon animals etc. I'm wondering how crowded DTD is on Halloween night?

I said PARKS, not DTD. I was responding about the parks. I don't go to DTD much and wouldn't consider it. That said, I bet Goodings or the shopping center at the Crossroads would have some trick or treating. Our local grocery store usually has some things going on.

According to the Tellacast I have for this week, the events for Oct 30-31 at DTD are as follows:

Marketplace: Trick or treating at multiple locations and Dockstage DJ (5-9pm)

PI: Dance the Fright Away on 10/28, 10/29 & 10/31

Westside: Photo Op accross from Candy Cauldron on lawn.

While Deb & Bill was specifically answering a quesiton concerning Halloween at the parks , there are plenty of other events all over our property. I have done the haunted hayride, but I don't recomend it for young children. If they are having the regular hayride (like they did last Halloween, due to the damamge from the 3 hurricanes we had) I would recommend that. You ride thru Ft wilderness and see all the holiday displays on the RVs. Then you go to the beach and see the fireworks. They pipe the music in and you can sit an enjoy them. The Hallowishes fireworks this year are AWESOME!

I believe the individual resorts have some activites on 10/31; contact the resort you are staying at on property for more details.

No matter what you do, have a wonderful time! :earsboy:
