Halloween Dates Always So Late?

I'm doing some early planning for a possible trip next summer. If we come, the ideal time is the week before labor day (as we're Canadian and so our kids don't return to school until after Labor Day). But at the same time, my DD and my favorite ride is Haunted Mansion. So I would like to know if there is a time that works overlapping both (even if we say caught the last day it's opened on the Friday before it shuts for refurbishment, then toured California, then return to Disney and end our trip with the parks.).

So trying to figure out when we would come. I'm amazed that it is July but they have yet to announce dates. It is normally this late or is this because it's the 60th anniversary? I know it's early to plan, but by the new year, I need to register my kids for camp so want to know which week(s) to keep camp free. Obviously we won't know the Halloween schedule but would be good to get an idea.

Rumor has it that Halloween Time could start as early as Sept. 9th. That would place the overlay start date around Aug. 22nd.

Wow, I'm surprised they release so late. Makes it hard to plan a trip (or maybe I'm just one of a small few that want to aim for end of August but also don't want to miss Haunted Mansion). I know someone posted before the historical dates which was great. If it shuts down Aug 22nd, then that makes it 2 weeks before Labor Day. I'm confused too on predicted crowds, but I'll post that separately. Thanks for the replies.
