Halloween Costume Rules?

I'm wondering if there are any specific rules for the Halloween costumes onboard the ships. I know the parks sometimes have rules about not covering your face, and my 8 year old daughter dresses as a Jawa.

Has anyone on the recent Halloween sailings run into any info on this?

I have not seen any rules about costumes. We were on the Halloween Cruise last year and my son was in a morph suit, one of the full body suits that covers up everything from head to toe including the head and face and no one said anything. Saw a few other kids in them as well.

I've read that some pirate swords have been confiscated by airport security. One was a child's more realistic looking prop though. If I remember what I read correctly, that was what started a larger problem like missing luggage or rescheduled flight because the sword caused them a airport delay. We brought "obviously" plastic and foam swords. No metal trim.

My 8 year old son is going to be Han Solo and I've been debating whether he should bring his bright orange plastic "blaster" with him. I don't want to violate the rules, but otoh it is so obviously fake.

Otoh we were at MNSSHP on Friday and there was a guy in a Scream costume with a fake knife.

Hello. I've never posted anything here but I'd hate to have a disappointed kiddo at the Halloween party. It is stated on the email that was sent informing us of the festivities it instructs folks "refrain from bringing toys or props that resemble guns, knives or other related implements, as these items will not be allowed onboard". I hope this doesn't affect anyone's plans.

Yes you're right, I will err on the side of caution in this situation and leave it at home. So I guess in this case Han definitely won't shoot first ;)

There goes your chance to right a wrong. LOL.

We won't bring our Jawa's gun either. Frankly, it's one less thing to pack anyway.

:offtopic: I find it funny that they say don't bring toy weapons when in the gift shop they sold toy guns and swords. They really need to make it one way or the other IMHO.

on topic though, I didn't see any of the kid costumes but at the adult party there were a lot of very creative and some over the top costumes. Pretty much everything you could think of was there. I felt underdressed in my pig ears and nose, I was just thinking of the suitcase space. I sweat some of these folks must have had a suitcase just for their costumes.

Having worked for an airline I get it. They have to be uniform in their rules. Some "toy" guns look real. This is especially true of older ones that don't have the red cap over the barrel. TSA won't let liquids thru security but you can buy them in the airport. Same thing with the guns on the ship. If it's really important to the costume at least you have an option. Disney really is the best. DCL included. Happy crusing!

I want my husband to bring his Chewbacca costume for the adult contest, but he doesn't want to have to haul an extra suitcase. :rolleyes2

We live in Orlando so we drive to the port, no worries about TSA. Still, I'll leave my son's orange plastic Han Solo blaster at home and probably end up buying him some sort of gun in the shop on board lol.

How tight is the security at the ship in regards to pirate swords and guns. Both plastic. In fact, I think we purchased the pirate guns on the Wonder several years ago. Also have a Musketeer costume for Halloween dress up night that has a plastic sword. Should there be any problems?

We're also in central Florida. Look for us in Musketeer costume, with or without sword.

I understand folks and their concern. I believe it is much like TSA, but worse due to being a sea port. This is simply a way to be consistent and not leave room for too much "judgement call" in my opinion. They would have to list a ton of limitations ie; size, color, material, age (as I mentioned before the orange cap on the end too many guns looked real) etc. It is in fairness to all that toy guns, swords or knives be excluded. That being said, it's up to each individual to interpret the rule. Much like folks interpret speed limits. hahaha. Give it a try. It's your prerogative. :-)

My daughter was an astronaut two years ago on the Halloween cruise. Her space helmet completely obscured her face (people were telling me how cute "his" costume was--humph! ;) ). Anyway, kids can have their faces covered, no problem. We have also packed plastic swords in our suitcases and not had a problem. Like others have said, they SELL them on the ship! No one onboard is going to take away your kid's plastic sword if it's obviously fake.

Awesome, thanks for the first hand info on the face thing! I was hoping it would be okay. She loves her Jawa costume. And since the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars special, she thinks it would be awesome to wear it on a Disney cruise. Thanks again!
