This is the first year I'll be home for Halloween and was invited to a Halloween party. I want to make a home made costume for myself. Please give me your ideas! I've already thought of Raggedy Ann, a bunch of grapes or a Hershey Kiss.

I made a costume one year for my son. He was a bag of jelly beans. Simply cut arm and leg holes in a large clear plastic bag. Blow up differant colored balloons and stuff them into the plastic bag. Tie a ribbon around the kneck area.

I'm going as The Statue of Liberty. It's our first time to go to MNSSHP so I'm so excited. DD picked Minnie Mouse (she's been about every princess there is so this was what was left, plus she loved the full, frilly dress). Don't know if this helps you any though, just thought I'd share. My costume is really easy, I have a robe that is the perfect green and then just bought the crown and torch. Have a great time, we love Halloween and the fun of dressing up.

One year DH and I pinned silk leaves all over us, I took two of his old suit vests and glue gunned all over, I made him a leaf hat and I had leaf barrettes in my hair. We had two signs on our back that said "Leaf of the Party"

We had a Halloween party a few years ago. A friend of mine was a butterfly and made herself butterfly wings from coat hangers and stockings(she found directions online). That same year, my aunt filled a clear garbage bag with plain white paper all crumpled up (like garbage), wore the garbage bag (she made 2 holes for her legs, arms and 1 for her head) and went as "white trash."
I would check online for homemade costumes. Here's a site I found... http://www.robinsfyi.com/holidays/halloween/costumes.htm
You could also look in Family fun for kid's costumes and just make one for yourself.
I'm not very creative and have NO idea what I'll be for MNSSHP this year. Most years we've been home and I'm usually in sweats/t-shirt and hair pulled back. I guess I've been dressing up as, "tired mommy who wants a nap" without knowing it!!

Good luck and post a pic of what you decide to do!!!

Are you going for scary or cute? That will help

Scary
ax murder victim either one is pretty easy. just lots of blood and gore.

Cute
I like the raggedy ann costume, or you could go as one of the classics, Minnie Mouse. (Pokadot dress, long black gloves, ears and makeup.

disclaimer-yes this is "sick and twisted"-, but thats fun on halloween!

wear black pants, black socks, black shoes. get a black turtle neck and make a broken white line up the middle (use masking tape-make it look like a 2 lane road). get a couple of garfield or those other suction cup type stuffed animals and sew their "little paws" on either side of the divided line.

you are now "road kill".

o.k. those of you who are saying "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew"-remember, i did'nt suggest mickey or minney..........i was thinking it, but i did'nt suggest it :earboy2:

I once saw a guy dressed all in pink - with a shoe tied to his head. I must have been staring because he finally said, "I'm gum! Stuck under a shoe!"

I have a cute idea. One year I was a Dalmatian. I bought a white sweats and took black marker to make the spots. I also took men's tube socks and spotted then as well. I put my hair in the tube socks in piggy tails and painted my face to match. It was quick, easy, comfortable and I could wear it to work. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas! The gum idea had me laughing because I've always thought to go as forbidden things for MNSSHP (gum, cigarette, Pepsi).
I also thought of being static cling - wear pants and shirt of one color and safety pin socks, underwear, dryer sheets.
Missing person on a milk carton - some sort of triangular hat, white gown, get a Missing picture of me and write "have you seen me?"
Or... get a white sweat shirt and pants and write "bless you" on it. Wear sunglasses and a cap and be a Blessing in disguise.
OR, actually grow up and be an adult (LOL) and be a cute she-devil or witch.

One year I saw someone who was completely covered in gold. Gold face and hands, clothes were spray painted gold, gold pointy hat and he had gold wings on his shoes. He carried a beautiful bouquet of (not gold) flowers. I had to ask because I couldn't figure out who he was supposed to be . . . he was the ftd logo!
