I am racking my brain, as is my DS, trying to think of a cool costume idea for him! He's 10. So far in his life he has been...
Pooh, Tigger, Ghost, Fireman, Lego, Frankenstein, Harry Potter, Ninja, Yugi-oh. I'm out of ideas! Please help!!

Since you have nearly a month, is it an option to take him to the local fabric store and let him look through the pattern books? That might be an inspiration.

What about a pirate? This occurs as we have homecoming this week and both kids put various pirate costumes together for Thursday when they dress like their opponent!

Today was favorite Hollywood personality, so what about a movie character? At 10 their options are not as wide perhaps as a highschooler but as an example DS went as one of the Blues Brothers. A couple of years ago he dressed up like Dick Tracy.

Our favorite place to scrounge for costume parts is the local charity store (such as Goodwill, etc.)

What is his favorite book character right now?

Deb

How about Zorro.....black hat, black cape, black mask... really easy!.............P

I like the pirate idea! Thanks Deb! Why didn't I think of that? Movie characters? hmmmm? I'm going to try to think of some good ones! He's into the Goosebump books right now and the Hardy Boys. All great ideas!! Thanks!

I really like the idea of dressing like your fav star! Since I'm a huge Sex and the City fan, I wonder if my DH will let me dress up in all Prada, Gucci, and Manolo? Just a thought!

I love the lego costumes. DH and I made them one year and they were a big hit. You can modify the costume and make it a stop light.

In the family fun magazine it has the coolest crocodile hunter costume you make a foam crocodile and it drapes around your neck and then its just kaki shorts and a shirt with a safari hat. very cool.

I don't know if you have access to back issues of Family Fun magazine but there was a cute pirate costume in there last October. I just
pulled mine out for ideas.

I have a 10YO DS also so we are going through the same thing.
Last year he was the alien from Family Fun magazine - great costume!

Good luck!

UMTerp- Actually I was thinking of the alien costume from last year!! It is a great one!!

I'll assume by your DIS name you're a Terps fan? My DH is too! I like WVU!
But also like he Terps since we are so close!!

Hi ILOVEPOOH1 !

I'm a UM alum so I've got to root for them! WVU got us good this year!

The alien costume was a big hit! The only bad thing was trying to drive to school for the Halloween Howl that we have every year. My DS had to sit sideways and had to try hard not to hit is "extra" head!
It wasn't hard to do. I used a strong piece of wood in addition to the paper towel tube to hold the head up straight. Used some green plastic gloves that I found at the dollar store for the hands. I also didn't use one long piece of fabric for the hood but two different ones (one from the head and another from the shoulders) so it wouldn't be as heavy.

Still don't know what my DS will do this year. He is talking about being a ventriloquist! He loves the guy on DCL - we got the video and he practices all of the time! I don't know about a costume though! He always makes me think for his costumes!

Have a great weekend everyone!

how about
Mr. Potatoe Head -
its easy
make a brown sack out of fabric -
then use foam to make the face pieces - velcro them on and off (store extras in a pocket on the costume!
Wicked Easy - Wicked Cute - and they really have fun changing all the pieces around!
