Halloween Candy & Other Goodies

We live on a dead end street in a housing development and over the 14 years we've been here, the word has spread......and they come :earseek:

I'm sure they do! When I was growing up, we had one neighbor that was the "Full sized candy bar house." They usually gave out Three Musketeers. When the porch light went dark, they were gone. We currently have a neighbor about a block away that gives them out if you're brave enough to approach his door. I'm not exactly sure how he does it, but he's rigged some kind of contraption on his front door to be an animated Weeping Angel from Dr. Who. It looks like a perfectly innocent angel statue upon approach and it shifts into demon mode once you climb his porch steps.

We get a lot of kids here (about 85 during slow years and around 160 on busy ones). Weather and day of week play a big role, so I just resort to handfuls of fun sized. One day, I want to be the full sized candy bar house.

I got Twinkies & those oatmeal cream cookies. I tried to aim for something different but still junk-food-edible.

Not sure how many kids we'll get, we haven't been in this house for a Halloween yet.

Those sound yummy. Address please. ;)

We get under 40 each year so full size candy. Hershey bars, Kit Kat, snickers, 3 musketeers, Reese's pb cups, skittles, Starburst, Fun Dip and ring pops. We have adult beverages for the adults. All the neighbors end up at our house and we all hand our candy out together. The police always drive by and stop and get candy and a cup of apple cider. We wear costumes and have more fun than the kids.

My church hosts an indoor version of trunk or treat. Members sign up for a table, decorate it, wear costumes and hand out candy. Most people bring some candy to start and the church members start donating bags in September. There are over 25 tables spread through out the church. We usually get about 400 kids. We don't age discriminate. The year that Halloween was on a very rainy Saturday, we had a record 600.

Several years ago a friend mentioned that her adult, developmentally disabled son would like to hand out candy but she was on the kitchen staff so busy with the cider and cookies and unable to supervise him. I told her I could get a table and he could hand out candy with me. Ever since we have been a team. He hands out candy and I hand out stickers. And yes, Halloween themed Christian stickers are a thing.

We no longer get any kids since our neighborhood has aged, probably three or four years now. My godson is the only child for blocks around. His Mom takes him to the next town over to trick-or-treat. We buy a bag of candy every year though, because the first time we don't you can be sure we'll have kids knocking. This year, I bought bags of Reese's Pieces because I don't like them so I won't be munching on them after the holiday.

Very similar here. We haven't had a single knock on the door in literally years, but if we're home on Halloween night I make sure we've got something on hand, just in case.

Haven't picked up halloween candy yet...I usually pick up a couple variety packs, nothing containing those awful black/orange peanut butter things.

We LOVE those! I'm not much of a peanut butter cup fan, but I could eat Reese's Pieces by the pound! DD15 and I were recently discussing the pros and cons of Reese's Pieces vs. Peanut Butter M&Ms...because the love is that serious! 🤣

We will be on vacation this Halloween. This is the first time I’ve ever missed it. So no candy here.

Ready for the trick-or-treaters!!

I went for the wow factor this year, because I just needed something fun and sweet to concentrate on. - The balloons are tied to plastic cups of candy, and I'll set them out along the walk for the kids to choose.

I also have stuff in a bowl if we run out or that they can pick from if they feel too old for balloons or have to account for allergies/braces/what-have-you.

(And of course there are some treats for the neighborhood pups who accompany their little humans! - We usually get a least a couple in costume.)

We have a bunch of big candy things in a laundry basket and then a big bucket of smaller candy and little toys. Hopefully we have enough, we get a lot of trick or treaters
