We're about a week out. I know not everyone hands out goodies, either by choice or due to location. For those that do, or that may be attending some kind of trunk-or-treat event, what are you giving out? And if you have kids, what are you hoping they bring home that you can swipe from their Halloween haul? 🤣

For us, DH found a 5.6lb bag of chocolate at Costco last week for $20 (shows $22 online). It has Reese's peanut butter cups, Twix, Snickers, M&Ms (plain and peanut), Hershey's bars, Three Musketeers, Milky Way, and 100 Grand. I'm supplementing it with a 4-5 lb bag of cheaper candy (mainly Tootsie products and Dots) that I got with a 25% off coupon at Kroger this past weekend (that's coupon has been 50% in previous years). The cheaper candy allows me to hand out more and it gives me something safer for kids with nut or dairy allergies.

DD15 plans to go trick-or-treating. I know not everyone loves the older kids partaking, but at least she's involved in a safe activity and she's usually helping hand out candy with me for the early and late kids. In any event, I'm really hoping she brings home some Almond Joy. It's the one candy that I love that everyone else in this house hates. I also bought her and DH a big bag of Crunch bars to share, because those are no longer in the assorted candy bags in our area...and those are their fave.

How about everyone else?

Both SIL and the Resident 8 Year Old are allergic to nuts, so we don't have any in the house. I bought a big bag of the "Child's Play" Tootsie Roll mix and a 100 count box of mini Rice Krispie squares. Not sure how many trick-or-treaters we'll get but these are snacks that are safe to have at home- and my grad students will scarf them down if we have too many leftovers!

We do not get trick or treaters at our house but if we did my whole thing is I love all trick or treaters. I don't care about the age. I would even love adults. All I care about...be in a costume of some kind. Could even be a hat. :)

We also got the Costco chocolate assortment as well as their non-chocolate (Skittles, Twizzlers, etc.) assortment. We buy these every year and usually give a couple pieces to each kid.
This is exactly what I buy every year. Unfortunately someone got into it (and since I hid it I assume it was me…). I put a bowl out and refill, our dog hates it and we get a ton if the weather is good (3 houses away is the #1 TOT street in town, they get over 1000 kids). My kids are adults but I will give candy to any age.

When I lived where there was trick or treating, I got stickers or pencils. Or if McDonald's or Wendy's was running a coupon book sale (free fries or a free jr frostie usually) I'd get those and hand out a coupon. I usually would try to err on the side of not food though.

We see people that complain on our local neighborhood sites, but I'd rather they be doing something fun and safe like trick-or-treating with their friends vs. the ones off getting into trouble. She's still trying to figure out her costume. She has a friend that wants to do a couples/duo type thing. DD suggested Bert and Ernie from Sesame street and her friend had no idea who they were!

Child's Play is what I bought for my secondary bag. It's good for allergies and I also like to give out handfuls. So, it allows me to give the kids a bit extra. I do really enjoy it when people give out Rice Krispie treats! My kids like them, but are also willing to share them with me. When we used to be in the office every day, we'd set up a candy bucket for all of the leftovers. It would go pretty quickly.

I used to love the McDonald's coupons when I was a kid. My kids often came home with things like stickers and pencils when we lived in our old neighborhood. Although, there was one house with a guy that worked for the state's Beef Council. He strictly gave out pencils with beef slogans. So, that's what I think of with Halloween pencils. 🤣

All I mainly know is I am VERY happy that the primary day for Diwali falls on 11/1 this year, so we don't have to have over-tired, over-sugared kids at school trying to teach them! :)

I do full size and variety (I get about 50 kids so this is doable). And I always make sure to have allergy options b/c I get having allergies.

This year, I have full size sour patch kid bags, full size airheads, and full size utz plain chips and utz pretzel bags (b/c utz doesn't use soy oil). All stuff I can eat after if not enough kids come (honestly, I have enough for more like 100, so I'll have extra to become single serve snacks for my family after)...

I can remember in the neighborhood where my dad would take me when I was little, one of the houses belonged to a funeral director. He would bring a casket home and set it up in his front yard, than lay in it with the candy he was giving out. You had to knock on the side and he would open it (he fixed it so the lid wouldn't lock), sit up, and give the candy. I was too scared to go up there, but reportedly he gave out full-size candy bars, not the little snack pack sizes everyone else did. He probably could because so many people were afraid to go up there.

My 2 teens are both trick-or-treating - Peter Pan (I don't want to grow up) and Patrick (from Spongebob). I LOVE seeing teens out b/c it's the one thing they can do that's community-building and positive for the holiday, since they tend to be forgotten for all the "events" (which tend to be for littles and adults). My older 2 also trick or treated all through high school. My community is very-pro for the teen trick-or-treating concept, so I love it.

I have a bowl with chocolates, a bowl with non-chocolate candy, and a have a bowl with whistles/straws/slime/etc. for those who can't have candy. The non-candy stuff I put in teal bowl. I started with the chocolate/non-chocolate because of my kid's friends having peanut allergies and progress to the teal bowl due other allergies/issues in my family.

I mean if they aren't wearing a costume no problem but when I ask come up with a creative answer. :) How in the world does her friend not know who that is. Makes me feel so old.

We have 120 full size bars to give out.....M&Ms, Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Reeses PB cups, Twix, KitKat, Starburst and 4 kinds of Skittles.
We also have pretzel bags and non food bags with little toys and fun things.
We usally get about 120 kids......so much more fun than when we lived in the middle of nowhere and got none for 25 years. We're making up for it now
