Just wondering if anyone does a halloween alternative. Once here our church had a fall festival, our kids are really too old to participate. When we lived in texas our church had a noahs ark party, I think the town might have even done something or the mall and I have heard of a trunk or treat that some churchs do. So do you do anything like this?

We're going to "Boo at the Zoo" with DS. :) Our local zoo has trick-or-treating, a hay maze, and other little activities set up throughout the zoo. I think admission is less than $5 for adults and DS is still under 2 so he's free. Should be fun...if I can get him to wear his mickey costume!! I rather do something like this than walk the streets. Our news station has shown footage from some church trunk or treats in the past years.

The church across from our neighborhood also has a big festival. A band, hot dogs, popcorn, pony rides, tractor rides, etc. The kids love it.
Some churches do a "trunk or treat", people put candy in the trunk of their cars & kids can go from trunk to trunk. Not really an alternative, but I guess it's a safer way of trick or treating.

Our church has a "trunk party" for Halloween. We give out candy at the car and they also have small games set up for kids. It's open to anyone but most kids I recognize from church. I like that it's well-lit outside and they also serve hot chocolate, individually wrapped snacks for kids.

luvmarypoppins...how old are your kids? Our church here has a fall festival/carnival and the kids 12 and older are in charge of running all of the activities, with adult supervision of course. It's alot of fun for the little kids and big ones as well.

Sad commentary on current society when trick or treating becomes un-PC.....

Holy rude hotheads, Batman!

The topic is fair and the responses were along the lines of what the OP asked for.

Since no one on this thread was condemning Halloween or those who celebrate it please crawl back to your cave.

Our church sets up movies and has popcorn, hotdogs, hot drinks and games available for kids trick or treating through town. People can use the bathrooms and take a rest. We may go to that, but we will defintely Trick or Treat first. When our kids were babies we used to take them to the Mall to Trick or Treat...especially if it was raining.

But to answer the question, several churches in our area also do "Trunk or Treat" or fall festivals where the kids are allowed to wear non-scary costumes.

My church does "Judgment House" which utilizes any large vacant building and puts up elaborate sets depicting different scenes of two or three teens.

In one of them, there will always be an accident of some sort sending the kids to Judgement where one will go to Heaven and one to Hell.

Is it corny? Possibly. Is it viewed as strange or ultra-conservative? Perhaps.

Has it been an effective tool for evangelism? You bet!
