:banana:Thank Goodness!!!! :worship:

This never made sense to me-that they would legalize it in a state, yet the federal government could still arrest you:confused3 Seems like it should have been one or the other.

My BFF had stage 4 lymphoma and medical marijuana really helped keep her comfortable and at a healthy weight during her chemotherapy.

What a glorious day for those who benefit from the effects of medicinal marijuana!!! :)

ITA!!! Gone are the days where friends of cancer patients must risk arrest for trying to find some pot for their loved ones. Hurrah!!!

Good. I never thought it was reasonable to prohibit a drug that some people could benefit from simply because it is also a recreational drug.

Thank goodness the Supreme Court has already recently ruled on this nonsense......

"The Supreme Court dealt a blow to the medical marijuana movement yesterday, ruling that the federal government can still ban possession of the drug in states that have eliminated sanctions for its use in treating symptoms of illness.

By a vote of 6 to 3, the court ruled that Congress's constitutional authority to regulate the interstate market in drugs, licit or illicit, extends to small, homegrown quantities of doctor-recommended marijuana consumed under California's Compassionate Use Act, which was adopted by an overwhelming majority of voters in 1996.

The ruling does not overturn laws in California and 10 other states, mostly in the West, that permit medical use of marijuana. In 2003, Maryland reduced the maximum fine for medical users of less than an ounce of the drug to $100.

But the ruling does mean that those who try to use marijuana as a medical treatment risk legal action by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or other federal agencies and that the state laws provide no defense.

Just hope it works for it's intended needs. Good luck to all those who NEED it.

when I was going through chemo I didn't get nauseous but I couldn't eat. I lost 48 lbs. (I did find it again and it brought some friends along)
I asked my oncologist if he thought it would help because my sons could have gotten some for me but he said he didn't suggest it but if I wanted to try it go ahead.
I never did because I am as my son say too chicken. I just felt that I would be sitting on the back porch getting high and the cops would come and get me.
I can see how it would help some people who need it and am glad it will be available for them. I was hospitalized with every chemo because my counts went so low. I wonder if I had been able to eat if I would have been so sick.

My friends dad who passed away last week took up smoking while suffering from cancer. It helped him sleep and eat. If this made his last few months more comfortable who are we, or the government to tell him he didn't have that right. I think it's a wonderful thing.

I know I would never be able to do such a thing, legal or not. I hope I never come to a point where I wish I was able to.

I wish there was a way to make it into a pill form; the fact that it has to be smoked is what I object to most of all... other than the effect on mental capabilities, but I suppose that can't be helped. :confused3

Why can't a pill form work? Many asthma medicines are taken orally. The rescue medsare inhaled to get instant relief. This is not an instant relief drug so why the need to smoke it.

Good news for those who are ill and living in states that will allow this..:thumbsup2

I'm all for anything that will make unbearable illnesses a little more bearable..:goodvibes

I'm about as conservative as they come, but even I can't understand why medical marijuana (WITH a valid prescription) should be illegal. It just seems crazy to me that it's OK to give cancer patients morphine in order to help with their pain, but it's not OK to prescribe them medical marijuana. I mean, the cancer patient could be come physically addicted to the morphine, making it much more dangerous than medical marijuana. I'm not in favor of legalized marijuana in general, but as long as it's prescribed by doctors and controlled by pharmacists (the same way other narcotics and controlled substance type medications are), then it seems like a much more practical, safe alternative to medicinal morphine or other heavy-duty narcotics that can be addictive.

:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3 I'm lost. What's the big issue about smoking it?

What's the big issue about smoking it?

Well, it's disgusting and harmful to your lungs, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Plus you can't be around other people while you're smoking it, unless they're looking for a contact high... :confused3

I'm not at all trying to start a confrontation here; I'm just mentioning my opinion/thoughts on the matter. I hope noone is offended by that; I won't post anymore on this thread as I have some strong views in this area (not the medical part, the illegal use of drugs part) and I don't want to cause offense, nor am I looking for someone to change my mind for me.

Peace, y'all :flower3:

But it is precribed for seriuosly ill people undergoing chemo and such.. They aren't exactly concerned about developing lung cancer or socializing.

i have heard of it being made into pill form, so i think it is possible to not smoke it. especially for those who may be having breathing problems and are unable to. :wave2:

As someone who has seen what cancer and morphine can do to a patient, I say this is good news. If you are dying, or have a disease that the treatment is so bad you need something, I say why not. If medical marijuana will help that patient eat and sleep, I am all for it. And lately, I have been discovering a bit about myself, that means I don't want anyone...including the gov't..telling me what I need to do. If I did I would move elsewhere.

I'm a vicious opponent to recreational marijuana use but an equally fierce PROponent of medical marijuana use. This is is sensible, good news :)
