WHOO HOO! Tomorrow is the big day! :bounce:

After two weeks of enduring my 6 month old male cat's utter destruction of my home by "marking his territory" (anywhere and anytime) and him shredding me, my son, and other cat Shadow to ribbons Luigi is going to loose his umm, how can I put this delicately...."meatballs" tomorrow! :o We had to wait 10 days until after he got his shots to schedule it.

Sorry if this offends any cat lovers out there, but it has been a very difficult and rough 10 days and I almost lost it last night when he peed on the stove.

I think he'll feel much better after it's all over with!! :bounce: Of course, you might be getting dirty looks for awhile!! :teeth:

Just wanted to add....if my cat would of peed on the stove...he wouldn't need to go to the vet....I would of removed the 'meatballs' myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :earseek:

 that was too funny...

sending along some pixie dust to help him in recovery!

He could still pee on the stove even after losing his meatballs. Simba lost his meatballs many years ago. Last night DH said he marked the tv as his territory right in front of DH. That's a male for you. DH better protect his remote! :teeth:

Just so you know, that sometimes neutering a cat that has already begun spraying doesn't end the problem. It becomes a habit for them, one that you have to help them break. So, it is entirely possible that when you return home he still might spray and you'll have to work hard to end the habit. It happened to one of my mother's cats and it has happened to my sister too.

I hope it goes well for him, for you, and for Pete. I've only ever had a female cat, and though she envies any attention I receive from DH or DS (not kidding-but I'll spare you the examples), I'ev never had to deal with anything like Luigi's behavior. I hope this helps him-though I agree you will probably get dirty looks from him for a week or so.

Is there a difference between spraying and just squatting and peeing? He does not "spray" per say just squats like he does when he goes in the litter box. I have heard that getting them to stop "spraying" is a problem, but I am hoping that we nipped that in bud before it started.

Spraying is just a term for peeing. It's the cats way or "marking" their territory. Cats don't ever lift their leg to pee like dogs do, they always squat, so that's how they do it.

Also when spraying they shake there behind. So thats an indicator if its a spraying problem or peeing problem.

Years ago I had 2 male, outdoor cats. When they sprayed something, for example, my tires on my car, they would back up to it and their tail would shake. It was definitely different than peeing.

Our youngest is nearing the six month mark and will be off to see the vet!!! Don't want any unwanted kittens being born, should he find a female friend!!! Also made an agreement with the charity we got him from to have the operation for the very same reason unwanted litters!!!
Poor fella may not like us but his two older 'brothers' are fine and they had the 'chop' when six months old!!!!
Hope all goes well.
Claire ;)

That's too funny - I was only talking about the size of the meatballs that I had at Tony's, MK earlier today! :p

I will never see meatballs in the same way ever again!

I was wondering what happened with that situation!

Keep us posted! I hope this fixes all the problems, especially for poor Shadow!

I hope this helps! Tycho was neutered as an adult and we've had a bit of trouble with him marking things, but he seems to have stopped that habit now. Depends, though - he marked my mom's house a little since he had competition (Mom's cat), but he hasn't marked this new apartment. Wedge isn't competition, Wedge is his brudder. So Shadow's presence may make him continue to mark...

remind me never to pee on your stove

You do mean it happened to your sister's CAT, right?? ;)

:rotfl: sorry, couldn't resist, I just had this vision of your sister....never mind...
it's late, I'm tired and punchy....sorry....teeheehee

Sometimes when a cat is peeing in inappropriate places it's because they have cystitis which is a urinary bladder infection. The vet treated the cat with antibiotics.

PS - Getting him fixed is great!

Getting my male cat fixed years ago didn't help with the "marking of the territory" spraying he does occasionally. :teeth:
