Hall of Pres. is it political?

We were there in March and no one booed or cheered. As my kids get older we really enjoy the educational things at Disney. The American Adventure at EPCOT was super this last trip. My oldest 2 have studied the Civil War, Depression, Civil Rights, and LOTS of other American history so they really enjoyed both of these great presentations. And the younger 2 get a good cool place to rest!

I think that it is tremendously sad. There are people in my life that I don't really care for (DH's boss being one of them). I would never disrespect him in any way. Because of his position, he deserves some respect. I will never like him as a person, but he has my respect because of his position. Same goes for the president of the United States. Regardless if I like him or not, he has taken on a job that I could never even imagine doing. Some of these presidents have taken on more than what they thought they were signing up for, current president included. For that, they deserve our respect. Booing at a person who served our country is immature and inappropriate. Very, very sad.

I haven't experienced any boos or cheering at any HOP presentation - we don't always make it to the show every trip, though.

On a trip a couple years ago - they had the sign out front welcoming George W. - unfortunately, we witnessed a couple of guys with large Mickey gloves on getting their pic in front of this sign giving it a special salute with only a particular finger.

We didn't realize what they were even doing at first & I hope none of the children walking by realized it either. ;)

Showing disrespect in a setting that private citizens have paid hundreds of dollars to entertain and educate themselves and their children is not freedom of speech. It is the display of total lack of class, sorry'ness, and down right socialy unacceptable behavior. This applies to booing to any of these Presidents during this show.
It is the person booing who has interupted the right of a hundred others to hear speech.

As for the Patriot Act, I have supplied the address here.

I heard that the Presidents don't like it, and when they are jeered, it's reflected in their performances.

With regards to how long it takes to "make" a president for HoP, I know that when I went in March of 2001 it was closed for rehab. I don't know how much earlier it went down but seeing as GWB was inaugurated in Jan of 2001, I can't imagine it was too much earlier. I'm guessing February. I believe it was open by the time I went again in Nov of 2001.

What I wonder is in the case of the last election where they knew that there would be a new president no matter who won, did they start work early? I would think they could start on the body of the AA, unless the body types were completely different. Then they could finish the head and the dress after they know who won. And then, in the case of this year's election, since we might not have a new president they would just have to wait.

At the end of the day, though, I'll still think Clinton should be in jail. Of course, as I said, I'll never shout anything. I'll just quietly and calmly get a dirty look on my face and scowl :)

I'm sure people will be sharing in your quiet distain, only towards Bush. BOTH of them! :) I sure know I will.

Good for you. I'm quite used to it anyway. I'm completely surrounded by the stereotypical liberal tree-huggers here in Ann Arbor and am used to hearing the drivel that they feel compelled to share with me.

I think one reason why it takes longer now then it did in the past is that starting with President Clinton, the current president has a major speaking part in the presentation. Before, they could add a person to the back, change the voice track a little, and do minimal adjustment to the rest of the show. Now they need to program an entire speech from the current president and include more movement in the rest of the body as well as the lips.

How sad - I really hope that there's a quiet audience when we go in October. I don't mind hearing people clap for presidents (Reagan certainly deserved it) but the boo-ing angers me. I'd rather have to explain to the kids why people were clapping for a president than have to explain why they were booing a president.

That said I don't think I could sit through a presentation with a sitting president that I dislike. We only go during "Republican" years :goodvibes

:)

I totally agree, here's hoping we have 4 more years to visit HoP.

We go every year in November and DS 9 likes the show. This year we'll be there the day after Election Day. I can assume there will be some cheers and jeers then. Unless like 4 years ago, it isn't decided right away!

just thought about what the John Kerry animatronic might look/sound like. Yikes. At least it's better than Howard Dean.

Can we have some applause for Grover Cleveland?

I have read through these really quickly so if I missed it please forgive me BUT I would like to make the following non-political statement.

THEY ARE ROBOTS!!!! What in the blazes is wrong with you people. Cheering, clapping, booing, jeering, gesturing...all done to a doll and a recording. Who is everyone trying to send the message too? In case you missed it...THEY ARE ROBOTS!

No political agenda is being mentioned, just a general patriotic atmosphere. Applauding the concept and the marvel of the technology is very appropriate at the end of the show.

Anything else directed at the liking or disliking of a particular President is just a whole lot of wasted energy. I will not alter the fact that they are or were Presidents. IMHO, it comes across as childish and showing a total lack of common sense.

Save your spacific political opinions for the ballot box. I can't think of one vote that was changed because someone "booed" at the HOP.

:duck:

By the way...did I mention...THEY ARE ROBOTS!?!?

This is like, the smartest thing I've ever read on these boards. You must be a genius or something - :D . Thanks for the good comment!

Right you are!

And while we're at it, let's concede that Mickey is infact a short little guy (or maybe even female) dressed inside that outfit. There is no mouse, people. It's a person! - Hello?!

Let's go further and say that magic isn't real, it's just an illusion! Speaking of which: that "magic" you see when Tinkerbell "flies" from the castle down to tomorrowland, well, she's not *really* flying! She's on a rope! Who would have thought!?

Give it up. We *understand* that they are robots. This is probably why the vast majority of adults aren't trembling in fear on Pirates! It's what they STAND for and represent and that is what this thread is discussing. Of course, if your President doesn't stand for anything and say, flip-flops on several issues, votes, etc, maybe they could be considered a robot. So, I guess your statement is in some aspects true enough!

:wave2:

To be honest with you...I wanted so badly to "boo and hiss" for a certain nameless president. I didn't though...I didn't hear anyone else either.

Truth be told, I haden't been to the HoP in more than 5 years (even though we've been at Disney more often than that) I found it more interesting than its ever been. I just started getting into politics myself, at the old age of 30!:teeth:

The last time we went to HOP was after Bush was elected, but before his figure had been installed. We heard a lot of comments in the waiting area before the show - The people stading near us happened to be Republicans, so we heard a lot of things like"Do you think they'll put W next to his daddy? They should just take out Clinton. He doesn't belong there." During the actual presentation, we heard some boos and some claps for Clinton, as well as some rude comments (the voices sounded very much like the people we had heard in the waiting area).
The boos and comments totally ruined the show for us and we have not been back since. The show itself is not partisan, but some people react to the show in a partisan way (it was only a small percentage in the last show we were in, and from what others have written, it's only in a small percentage of shows). I just don't come to WDW to hear that though.

I heard that the Presidents don't like it, and when they are jeered, it's reflected in their performances.

You may want to reconsider your visit to the HOP. It isn't very realistic. Clinton's zipper was zipped the whole show.

And on a serious note, I've never participated in nor witnessed cheers and/or jeers at the Presidents during the show. If you are visiting during or right after election, I would take it as forewarned that other visitors have. Have fun!

Well it can't be any worse then George W.

When we were the this past May there was booing for George W. That was the first time I have ever heard any negativity in HOP.
