We were in Halifax on September 9, 2012 on board the Disney Magic. We decided to opt for a tour on our own in Halifax, instead of one of those offered by the cruise line. We are SO glad that we did. We used ToursbyTowncar (Toursbytowncar.ns.ca). We emailed about a week before our cruise date. Jim Currie was excellent in offering up some suggestions for points of interest and a basic outline for our day. When we arrived in Halifax, out driver, Brian, was at the front door waiting for us. Brian had checked the weather forecast for the day and made suggestions so that we would have a great chance of missing the rain showers as we progressed through the day (surprisingly we missed all of them 
).
With Brians suggestions we went out further than we had originally planned, and ended up seeing the coastal city of Lunenburg, then into Mahone Bay and stopped at this wonderful Pewter Store were we watched them cast items and picked up a few souvenirs, we also saw the three steeples . Then we went into Chester for lunch at a local brew pub recommended by Brian (amazing Haddock!!!). Then we went to Peggys Cove so that we could check out the lighthouse, and then back into Halifax to go by Alexander Keiths Brew Pub for a quick one and back to the ship.
We were gone from 9am to just after 4pm but what an amazing day, and a great way to see the country side of Nova Scotia. What a beautiful providence that Canada has. I will want to return some day to see the Citadel and a few other sites and city parks.
Brian explained the history of Nova Scotia and some of the restorations that have been taking place as we went along through the day. He was a great tour guide for our day in Nova Scotia.
