Half way between WDW and Ft Lauderdale?

Can anyone suggest a place to vist for the day that would be about half way betweeb WDW and Ft Lauderdale. We would like to meet up with some friends and have lunch and maybe see a few things in the area. Any suggestions would be most welcome!TIA Grammy

well Disney's Vero Beach Resort is pretty close - but there is not alot to do besides beach stuff.

guess you could rent bikes and go exploring?
