I would think that Labor Day weekend would already be a madhouse, is it? DH wants to come run the DL half (he did the Goofy in January) and I want to know what I should be expecting.

I went on Labor Day during the 50th and was pleasantly surprised at the low crowds. Of course, they weren't having the half-marathon that weekend. But, I think that many kids are back in school already or will be going back on Tuesday, so the parks in general shouldn't be packed once the marathon crowds move out.

By the way, is your name Calli?

I'm Callie, and I'm in Phoenix. Just thought it would be a funny coincidence.

Labor Day weekend is really not too bad. More so than a regular weekend, but not like summer or spring break at all. The summer is over, most kids are in school, families are done with vacations till the holidays and it is somewhat quiet. The biggest drawback is that it is usually very hot. Often close to the 100 mark. The marathon is fun, a lot of folks do it and I think it is neat that DL partakes in it. I would go, just prepare for the temps and of course, bring tons of water.:)

Hi, Callie!

Nope, my cat's name was Calli (short for Callipygian - beautiful butt - my father named her). Way back when I wanted an online identity it was the best I could come up with. I'm just a plain old Jennifer.

Thanks for the response!

I would like it to be cooler, but we can handle 100 degrees. I do need to take that into account if I decide I want to try and walk the 5k. DH is a heat-loving health nut. I'm a cool-loving couch potato.

Does anyone know why they don't allow runners to use headphones? I think the website said safety reasons but come on. I don't think I could do it without a little distraction from my ipod.

It's a new USA Track and Field rule. Any race running under USATF sanction has to follow. See: http://www.thefinalsprint.com/2007/11/usatf-delegates-debate-headphones-ban/

DH doesn't race with his MP3 player because he is really racing and doesn't want the distraction. I, on the other hand, would probably need headphones to make it through.
