Margie My birthday is tomorrow April 25.

It's still unbelievably humid and raining here. Did manage 9 miles in 1:20 in between/during the lighter storms.

District track meet starts at 1. Hopefully my team will qualify through to the next round.

Best,
Jennifer

Margie...if you are keeping track of birthdays, mine is Nov. 10.

WTG Dave!!! :banana::banana:

I'm back:)

he Ky Derby was my most difficult half ever. We went right straight up a series of long steep hills right from the beginning. My bad achillies didn't have time to warm up to racing before the hills started and the first 3 miles were quite painful. My mistake I should have warmed up better before hand but it was raining and we were about a quarter mile from the start so I thought that would be plenty of warmup, didn't realize the hills would be so soon. So the first 3 or 4 miles were walked in the 14's and 13's. About mile 4 my achillies stopped hurting and I could get comfortably in the 12's again.

My time was 2:50 because of the rough start. I did have a cool moment when another race walker caught up to me while I was struggling at the beginning and asked where I learned to race walk, I said I was self taught and he bragged to me for a few minutes about how he was trained by Dave McGovern. A couple of min later after my achillies finally warmed up and stopped hurting I passed him like he was standing still. I told him the next time he and Dave McGovern chatted to tell him the Panda said hi, he will know who I am. I never did see him again and he was far behind when we finished.

The weather wasn't bad, light rain at the start and by mile 5 when we came out of the hills it stopped and the sun came out. Nashville got hammered with storms today though, The Country Music Marathon was today also.

We are having sever storms here in Bowling Green Ky now and my TV cable is out. At least I still have the internet.

John Bingham was at the Nashville race this weekend and I was hoping he would post a report.

Lynn, thanks for checking in we miss you princess.

Piglet, thanks for the kind words.

Margie I didn't even know my time yet thanks. I was estimating about 2:50.

:cheer2:Speedy Panda:cheer2:

Congratulations Dave, i've always watched the race walkers in amezment, I understand how to run, but to walk fast and keep on foot on the ground at all times :worship:

I had a good :lmao: at the bit about the other race walker.

I hope the tornados don't come you way. Keep safe.

Dave-nice Race Report. :goodvibes
Hope your Achilles is not complaining today.

Kristie-I know a cast is difficult but you will not be
able to use it so the temptation is gone to push it so it will
help with the healing. :flower3:
How long do they expect the cast to be on?

Lynn-Jeez, I hope your weather is better this week! :upsidedow

I'm walking normally today so life is good. I went to sleep last night at 8pm and slept till 4am, got up did laundry and marketing, feel great. I'm icing my achillies every couple of hours and doing stick massage for my legs so recovery is going fine.

Mike that was a great time on your race, you are getting stronger all every day.

All our princesses:hug:

Going to work in a couple of hours, y'all have a super Sunday.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning:

I am hoping to get out today for some miles. We took the princess shopping yesterday and had family bbq so it was a busy day. Boy she does make me tired! Such a joy to have hanging around. We had many laughs, tears and fun. We are enjoying the weather, our bbq grill and being outside in April. It's such rare opportunity.

Wow, all of you are doing great. Walking, running, working out and competing.

Dave, glad you could smoke that other walker! Isn't it fun.

Well, shower, and off to start my day. I know it's late but It IS Sunday!

My BIRD-DAY is June 11. Yes that's what we call it. But it is my Birthday. I am a Gemini, you never know which twin will show up!

Been trying, but cannot get any results on Connie & Jack's races-Jeez! :headache:

Connie-10th Anniversary Oklahoma / Half Marathon
Jack-RI State Police 5k Pursuit / Narragansett

Anyone else have any success searching?

Congratulations, Connie & DD, Melissa!
We are so proud of you! :cheer2::cheer2:

They still do not come up on the race results, but they have crossed the Finish Line, tired, checked out of hotel, and have started the drive home!

Hi guys.

I sure hope Connie's foot is ok now I felt for her at Disney, I know that was devastating for her to work so hard and then pull up lame at the race.

Denise, yes it feels good to blow away other race walkers, my walker partner, my student the horse ferrier, was laughing because I would increase the pace and sure enough there would be another race walker ahead of us that I was off in pursuit of.

Margie you are awesome keeping track of everyone.

Syko, it amazes me that you can do what you do also darlin. I would be sore for life after doing an arm crank or pushing a wheel for 26.2

Dave:hippie:

Hi Everyone,

No run today, but DH and I did go out yesterday morning and ran 3 miles. DH and I are officially registered for the 10K Rum Run in Oregon on 5/23. From what I’ve read it goes to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association. I’m excited as it will be my first race! After I signed up for the Wine & Dine, I read somewhere that I should do some other smaller races to get a feel for the race enviroment and to practice what I will do for the Wine & Dine, so we’ll see how it goes. It’s coming up pretty fast!

Jennifer- :bday: party:

Dave- Thanks for the race report! Way to go passing the other race walker! :cheer2: Do you have another race planned?

Connie- :woohoo: Congrats to you and DD Melissa!!:woohoo:

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening! :wave2:

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Heavy rains yesterday, rain and high winds all night,
windy and more rain this morning- then clearing, partly cloudy
with a high of 65° today.

Connie- Eager to read your Race Report!
Thanks…it was truly great talking to you!
Hope the trip home was uneventful.

Dave- way good news that your Achilles was not a big problem after the race. :goodvibes
Thanks…we have such a Great Team.
I get excited trying to follow the races.
But yes I do get a bit frustrated when I cannot find the race results! :headache:

Denise-you are doing great getting everything you do in too!
Eager to see the pictures of your quilt.
And I agree those little grand babies squeeze your heart. :littleangel:
Plus they seem to have way too much energy - my little Hagen never stops!

Jack- Hope you had a great race. :goodvibes
I looked at the pictures & video from previous years. It is a beautiful area.
I checked again this morning and still no Race Results for 2010 yet.

Jennifer- Hope your birthday was extra special! :cloud9:
How did your Team do yesterday?

Kim- how is the new workout progressing?
What do you like best about it? :goodvibes

Mike-are you okay? :upsidedow
Is the Grumpy Old Man fixed for the moment?
Washer & Dryer installed?

Regina-check out our Hakuna Matata Team 2010
Race Calendar on Page 1 Post #2
Hopefully I have everyones races (so far) listed for 2010!
When Captain Connie starts our May Thread
I will try to get the Race Calendar, the Weight Loss List,
and the Birthday Calendar all on the first page.

Sue-miss you :upsidedow

Vicky-how is your ankle? :flower3:

Good morning team! Hope everyone had a relaxing and fun weekend :)

Margie - Hopefully the rain clouds have cleared and sunny weather is on its way to you :) My birthday is on October 6 and can you put me down for another 1.5 lbs! How are your workouts going? Were you able to incorporate any of the exercises we talked about into your routine?

Regina - Doing a 10K with your DH sounds fun! Is he a runner too or just starting out? I can't think of a better way to stay in shape and keep motivated with your routine than to workout with your SO :)

Kirstie - Mmmm... all you can eat pie! I'd be there all day :) How long is your mom visiting with you for? Are you still able to exercise with your arm cast? I hope it doesn't stay on for very long pixiedust:

Dave - Great race report! It sounds like a tough course with the hills so early on but you made it through! I loved the part when you passed other race walker! WTG!

Jennifer - Happy belated birthday! How did your track meet go?

Sue - How's training for Mississauga going?

Kim/Scott/Lynn - :wave2:

AFM - I bought a new jacket on the weekend. I probably shouldn't have since the weather is warming up but I couldn't resist :) I had a hard time finding the right size. The small size fit around the chest and waist but the shoulders looked off. I tried one size up and the shoulders looked right but everything else was too loose. Anyone else have that problem? I ended up going with the bigger size and spending a little extra to tailor the sides. Reminded me of What Not to Wear

DF was invited to a wedding in June by one of his exgirlfriend. She's out in Boston and I was all excited about going on a road trip but then he said wasn't sure if I was invited. And Boston is north of NYC - I thought it was south and I could take a quick trip to visit a friend in DC. I did a search on Google Maps and the drive from DC to Boston is about 7-8 hours. Guess I need to brush up on my geography a little  Oh well, maybe I can visit that Cake Boss bakery in NJ instead! Assuming I'm still going... haha!!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good morning Guys!

Oklahoma City was great. I haven't trained since Disney because of the tendonitis in my foot, but racing conditions were great and I finished.

OKC is always such an inspirational race. Melissa and I had a great time walking together. We had a bridge overpass to walk in the first mile, at least it was the NEW bridge. The old one was falling apart, literally!! :rotfl: The wind blew and the sun shone, and it was a pretty nice day.

We stopped at mile 6 and to get some Tylenol at the first aid tent. My foot was really starting to bother me. And off we went again. We we kind of by ourselves in Mile 5, so we stopped and let the professional photographer take our picture!

IN Mile 8, the half goes through this really great neighborhood. The people come out and provide an unofficial "water stop" (there are actually lots of those in OKC). They were offering snickers bars, bacon, and lots of other stuff but one family had Krispy Kreme doughnuts (boxes and boxes of them) so I stopped long enough to get one.

Melissa was running out of gas, about mile 10 and just in time, they had sliced oranges. She was able to pick back up and carry on again.

We finished 4:10, with an average pace of 19:08. We enjoyed the race and had a great time. Melissa learned what she could fuel her body with and we made it. The Carl's Junior burgers at the end of the race are almost my favorite part! Yum!:thumbsup2

Hiya Team!

I'm still here! Sorry that I haven't checked in during the past few days, things have been really busy! I'm in the middle of working 23 out of 25 overnights and haven't slept much. I got the gas line piped for the new washer/dryer just before they were delivered last Thursday. Only one extra trip to the hardware store! :) They are HUGE and work great! :laundy:
I worked all night Friday to Saturday and ran my Young Life 5K to benefit handicapped kids going to summer camp. The race started on a horse racing turf track which was neat. I pushed it and set a new PR of 28.47 for post cancer surgery. My pace was 9:16. (Thanks for the great comments from my facebook freinds! ) Then I had to pick up Liz from work and we went out to lunch to celebrate at a new restaurant called the Tilted Kilt. Robert and Dave, you would love this place! The girls wear short kilts and, um, you get the idea. Kind of a Scottish Hooters. Then I went home and collapsed in bed. Two beers did me in!
Worked all night again and went straight to another 5K benefiting the March of Dimes and premie babys. Our Robert was one, weighing 3 lbs 11 ounces when born. I took it easy for this one and completed in 30.47. Then I went home and slept. So, as you see, I've been busy....:upsidedow
This weekend is our Actec Assault 5K adventure race! We got a few people signed up from work and wagers are being made for beer after the finish! It should be a blast! I can't wait! I get to act like a kid again! :woohoo: Mud pit here I come!!
-----------------------------

Jeniffer~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I HOPE THAT YOU HAD FUN!!

Dave~ Great job on those hills and I'm happy that you feel good after the race. Training does pay off! I agree, it's fun to pick out someone ahead of you and push it so you can pass them! I had three ladies running at my pace on Sunday that wouldn't stop talking about grocery stores ( the last thing I wanted to think about was work!) so I made sure to pass them in the last quater mile! Hah, take that! pirate:

Regina~ Congrats on signing up for your first race! That's always exciting! Take lots of pictures if you can. Here's hoping that you both do well! :cheer2:

Connie~ Great job finishing your race! :woohoo: It sounds like you had a nice course and a fun time!

Vicky~ I hope that you get to go along for the trip to the East coast. We go at least once a year to see the MIL. She lives about an hour West of Boston. This year we want to take the time to see the sights!

Margie~ I'm still here! Thanks for checking on me! Dave is right, you do a great job keeping track of everyones races! Thank you!

Scott and Lynn~ Has the weather cleared up for you? I read your reports and know we are next to get it!

Jack ~ How did your race go?

Kirstie~ I hope your arm is doing okay! How was the DD's birthday celebration? Any Disney magic happen?

AFM~ I don't know if I will workout today. I'm still pretty tired, but it's a beautiful day outside.....

Thanks for being a great team everyone! - Mike:cool2:

Kristie!! Sorry your arm is broken. Man, that hurts! I know about that one-armed thing. Wore a sling with my shoulder for weeks! Hope you heal soon. Does your mom live in UK?

Hey Sue!

Lynn, don't stress over catching up or doing power posts! Just join in, we have missed you. Scott too, but mostly you! :rotfl:

Hey Jack! Is that better than hijack! :rotfl:

Yo Robert! How's the world of racing out your way???

Margie! You are the best! The race was awesome and your encouragement means soooooooooo much!

Gerry! If I had to go around an alligator pond, I would be flying, not just sprinting! :rotfl: What a cool site, to see a rocket take off while out for an ordinary workout! Awesome!

Howdy Mary, good to hear from you!

Hello Pam? you still out there, somewhere???

Well, just resting. I did get unpacked and made lunch. I don't know if I will get much farther than that, today. I'm not sore...much. Just my shins from working hard to using my ankles more and the balls and toes of my feet, less to protect the foot.

See ya! Connie
