Hakuna Matada - Hot, hot July!

Hi everyone... Just a quick note before I (literally) run out the door. I have the reservation for Kona Cafe. January 6th @ 10:25AM I have it for 12 people:

Kim & Mike
Eva & Jordan
Regina & Kyle
Emily & Patrick
Dave & Sally
Mike
Vicky

The system is kind of dumb, I had to break it into two reservations because even though 12 people is an option, it showed no availability. I will give them a call later today to let them know we're one group.

So if anyone else wants to join us - Just make a reservation at Kona around that time. I can't make another one because the system flags down "duplicate" reservations.

Thanks Vicky, your the bestest!!

I'm not sure yet what I'll be doing today. Sally's back is bothering her again so we might hang out at the house and let her rest. I will do a training walk though once she is situated. She's still sleeping right now. I'm an early riser and 6pm is a sleep in for me.

I'm sure ready for a vacation, maybe Sally and I can slip away for a weekend soon. We have a 3 day trip planned for the 16th thru 18th of Sept for the USAF half marathon.

Have an awesome Sunday y'all!!

Dave:hippie:

Thanks Vicky are we doing ressie for Chef Mickey's as well?

Will forward you that email.

DId a interval on the TM this morning a bit slow but still felt pretty good. What I believe is IT is still bothering me but will work and stretch do it, if I can walk goofy with PF this isn't going to keep me down.

Just got back from a 7.7 mile training walk and it was 98 humid degrees when I finished. Pace was a slow 13:52 per mile.

Dave:hippie:

Good Afternoon Team! Sorry I do not seem to get on the computer as much as I used to.

Regina - Good to hear your chiro appt went ok.

Kim - I have a Honda Pacific Coast (800 cc), they did not make many of them, I get teased by the Harley riders that I am riding a pregnant Vespa! Good luck with the IT band!

Dave - Sounds like you had a great walk on Friday!

Saylan - Hope your weekend went well! Hope the kitty is doing better!

Nikki - Good luck with your training!!!

Elizabeth - Hope you had a good race this weekend!

AFM - Today we got out early for a 26 mile ride. The dogs killed a skunk in the back yard last night - we are having issues in the area with rabid skunks, so as of this morning, skunk is on it’s way to be tested, and dogs are on home quarantine until results come back. They are vaccinated, Vet says vaccine works 99 percent of the time, if skunk comes back rabid, they will have to get a booster shot, and they will be quarantined for another 10 days. We were planning to go to Steamboat Springs for a bike ride next weekend, we may have to stay home because of the dogs, (can’t board quarantined dogs), should know on Wednesday about the skunk. The Animal Control gal says only 25 percent of the skunks are coming back positive, so that is something to hope on.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Lynn that Skunk and Dog party must have been loads of fun in the middle of the night.

We are watching Forest Gump and eating popcorn. It's way to hot to be outside today.

Earlier we drove up to a lake that used to be my fishing hole when I was a teenager about 40 years ago. It's still there and just as pretty a lake setting as you will ever see. It covers a couple of miles of water with woods coming right to the edge of the water all around. Wonderful place for a canoe trip.

Dave:hippie:

Hello team!

Vicky - Thanks for making the ressie!

Regina - Good to hear your appointment went ok.

Saylan - The exhibit was segmented into different stages of his career. I really liked seeing the work he did as a teenager. There were also personal notes, letters, and studio memos throughout that were cool to see. I also liked seeing the props from my favorite Burton movies.

Good to hear you can go to DL! I've stayed at the Fairfield Inn which is basically right across the street from the parks. I didn't like the hotel because I found the beds to be really uncomfortable and the fireworks from DL are quite loud so it's hard to go to sleep early. I've also stayed at the Homewood Suites and we're staying there again this year. It's farther down Harbor Blvd from the parks (have to take the shuttle) but it was clean and quiet. It's not one of the cheapest hotels, I'd say it's more mid-range in price. It's close to reataurants and across the street from a Target store.

Kim - Hope your IT band feels better soon.

Dave - WTG on your walk!

Elizabeth - Hope your race went well!

Lynn - WTG on your bike ride! I hope the skunk tests negative.

AFM - We had a 6 mile run this morning, we had an average pace of 12 min/mile. I thought it went ok.

I got new running shoes today. My old ones have over 300 miles on them and my feet were starting to hurt a bit after my runs, so I thought it was time to get a new pair. I've haven't tried them out yet.

Thursday night we went to see Les Miserables. It was good, much better than a previous production I saw. It wouldn't make my favorite musicals though. I was also tired when we went so I was a bit unhappy the play was 3 hours long.

I watched the world cup quarterfinals this weekend. 3 out 4 games went to overtime and 2 went to pnealty kicks. It was really intense watcing the games.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Emily

Happy Monday team!

Emily - What kind of shoes did you get? I hope they work out for you. Mine usually wear out around 300 miles as well. The current pair I have, I hadn't tracked mileage on it so I'm going to start looking for a new pair soon. I didn't realize that Les Miserables was three hours. That's a long time to sit for.

Dave - A Forrest Gump movie night sounds great! I laughed when I read your skunk and dog party (I'm sure it wasn't quite that funny). Did you go fishing when you went up to the lake? Great pace on your walk! It was insanely hot yesterday here as well!

Lynn - pixiedust: for your pups. Hope they're doing okay. I'm glad that you get to keep them at home instead of having to quarantine them at the pound or something like that. Did you use tomato juice to clean their fur? Back when I had a dog, he got sprayed by a skunk - it wasn't easy/fun to clean him up but he was a short haired-ish dog (mini schnauzer). I'll keep my fingers crossed that the skunk was rabies free.

Kim - I haven't booked Pop yet so the dining system won't let me make a reservation for Chef Mickey's Sunday yet. Do you have a foam roller? I usually try rolling out the side of my thigh - that's where the ITB is. Not the most pleasant experience but it helps to keep things from getting too tight. The Acura 10 Miler is coming up :)

Nikki - I use to have such a hard time sitting still in class. I always wished they'd give us a break every 30 minutes or at least every 60 minutes. I hadn't heard of Jon Ackland before, I'll have to look him up. Are you done with classes until the fall?

Saylan - Glad to hear your kitty is feeling better! Vet bills are really expensive. Is there such thing as pet insurance or are the deductibles too high?

No worries about the team meets. The breakfast is at 10:30 so if you do want to come, just make an ADR for Kona Cafe around then.

I talked to another friend of mine who says "Car Boy" is going through a jacka** phase. Apparently, he's being a jerk to more than just me. Whatever happened to just talking about things LOL And yeah, you and I both would kick his butt in the gym anyday :) Speaking of ... Can you post the leg workout?

Any news on that student?

Regina - Glad to hear the chiro adjustment helped! Wow - twice a week is pretty frequent but I know the adjustments are a big help with pain relief. Did you go running this weekend?

Mike - How's Liz doing? Hope she's ok

AFM - I had another weekend of a 5 miler and a 13 miler. The 5 miler was pretty good, I managed a sub 11 m/m pace despite the sun and humidity. The 13 miler turned into a 12 miler because it got unbelievably hot and humid toward the end of the run. I know it's an extra mile but the headache was already starting in and I figured I'd just call it. I was lucky on my LR day because there was cloud cover from mile 1 to 7. When the sun came out it was a scorcher! I had my four 8oz fuel belt bottles with me and I had to stop to refill two of them (thank goodness for Subways and McDonald's LOL). I think I must have lost a pound in sweat that day!

I also managed to make some cookies this weekend. I candied some bacon strips and threw them into a dark chocolate and toffee cookie dough mixture (along with some bacon fat  ). They were awesome! The bottoms came out crispy and the tops were still chewy. Even my mom who isn't a fan of sweet and savoury combinations liked them.

I made swiss rolls in my baking class on Friday night. Not really my kind of dessert but my dad loves those types of desserts - the Black Forest Cake, short bread cookies ... so needless to say, that roll didn't last very long.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Afternoon Team!

Vicky - No,, no tomato juice, just plain dog shampoo - from previous experience, nothing really works well except time to get the stink out, but shampooing helps make it tolerable. Your cooking experiments sound great!

Dave - Yes, it was tons of fun washing dog at 1 in the morning! The worst part is waiting for the rabies test results.

Emily - Enjoy the new shoes!

AFM - We got out early for a 16 mile bike ride today, since it was “short”, I went all out (which means a casual ride for Scott). No dog walks until quarantine is over. Hopefully we will hear something tomorrow, but were told not to expect anything until Wednesday.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Chef Mickey's is booked! They had lots of times available on Sunday (Jan 8th) but I picked 5:30. If anyone wants a later time, let me know and I can rebook. There isn't much earlier since the restaurant opens at 5PM. I had down:

Kim & Mike
Eve & Jordan
Mike
Vicky

Will post more later! :wave2:

Good morning team.

Lynn: Hope all is well with the furbabies.

Vicky: Wahooooo we are still in for Chef Mickeys

Emily: Yaaaa for the new shoes. I picked up some when I was in Maine last weekend, about $60 cheaper for my brooks then I would pay here so was a happy girl.

AFM: Getting in my exercise which is great, food is just OK about 60% good so still alot of work to do.

I ordered new kicks to. I also ordered some more Body Glide, parts of my body are upset with me since training in this heat makes chaffing a problem.

I'm resting again today, 101 degrees and I'm working a long day shift. Tomorrow will be another assult on a 6.7 mile PR, last Friday was a PR at that distance by almost 2 min. I'm feeling strong, just need to lose that darn 30 lbs.

My first race of the season is this Saturday and it's forcasted to rain. I would prefer the rain to the 100 humid degrees.

Have a great tuesday y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd give us a bump back up to top of the page!

Dave - More hot weather here too! It's really muggy even first thing in the morning. I am definitely going to try and get up for a quick run tomorrow morning. Do you want to give me the name of your race and I'll add you to the team calendar?

Kim - I LOVE shoe shopping in the US!! When I was at the outlets last November, I bought 3 pairs at Nine West. And whenever I go to Disney, I always order running shoes to be shipped to the resort. Shoe prices (especially with the sales tax here) and crazy!! I hear ya on the eating although with the warm weather the past few days, I haven't felt like eating as much. It didn't stop me from chugging down a giant can of sweet tea though

AFM - The hot weather continues! I worked out at the gym yesterday and am still a little sore. I did single leg presses, weighted squats and lunges, pushed the stupid bag around the gym :) and some kettlebell exercises. I'm still feeling a little sore today but I kind of expect that. I've got a dentist appointment after work and then I'm meeting my chiro to have drinks, dinner and catch up!

Ok so I noticed that I'm not the only one looking to lose a couple of pounds. Would anyone be up for a Biggest Loser team challenge? The leanies group does it a few times a year - we check percentage of weight loss during the week, share notes, recipes, earn points for eating fruits & veggies and for doing exercise. We can start next Monday that way we can clear the junk foods out of the house. I don't mind organizing it if anyone's interested (and I don't have to post anyone's weight - we just post % lost and points).

Have a great day! :wave2:

Vicky I'm doing the Trooper Island race on the 16th and the Bowling Green High Purples race on the 30th.

I will be racing often before the end of the year now. I'm registered for The USAF Half on the 17th of Sept.

Lots of 2 mile, 5K and 10K races.

Today was a rest day but in the morning will be a good training walk.

Sally went to the Chiropractor today and is getting fixed.

Have a restful evening y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Evening Team!

Vicky - I just lost 20 pounds, looking to lose about 5 more maybe, but would not win Biggest Loser that way!

Kim - All is well with the furbabies!

Dave - Hot!!! Good to hear Sally is getting fixed at the Chiropractor!

AFM - We got word today that the skunk was not rabid!!! Dogs are off quarantine, and we can go for walks again! And we can board the dogs and go to the bike ride in Steamboat Springs, CO this weekend! Today is Scott’s and my anniversary - we celebrated first by taking a bike ride to town to Texas Road House which was doing a lunch benefit for the MS Bike ride. Later we went into to town again (not on the bikes) for dinner at our favorite restaurant. The car got caught out is a bad hail storm, and now the hood is all dented - guess we will have to call insurance company tomorrow and see what they can do. We got in 12 miles on the bikes.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Team!

Saylan- What is your goal for where you want to go? Yeah, I don’t find getting adjusted too pleasant and don’t like it, but I know it helps me feel better so I suck it up and go. I’m glad your kitty is doing better. Congrats on asking for time off for DL and getting it! Have you booked a room yet? I don’t remember where I stayed when I went so I can’t really help much.

Dave- I’m glad your training is going well and you aren’t having the pain issues you were having before. Good luck on your race this weekend!!! I love weekend trips- they can be great refreshers. Do you still like to fish? Be careful out in that heat! I’m glad Sally is getting fixed at the chiro.

Nikki- I was feeling a little better right after the chiro, but now I’m right back to where I was. Part of that though, is because he wanted to see me 2x a week to get adjusted, and I can’t this week or next because I’m out of town at a mandatory work training. I think it will get better as I am able to consistently go. I’m glad you’re getting back into training!

Vicky- Thanks and I agree with Dave- you’re the bestest!! There is actually pet insurance, but I have no idea what the payments/deductibles are like. No run, and I forgot my running clothes to run here. Better to listen to your body than ignore it and pay for it later. I’m glad your 5 miler went well though and that you made it 12 miles anyway! Did you take pictures of your bacon cookies? It sounds interesting. I might be interested in a team challenge. I’m not looking to lose a whole lot of weight, but it might help motivate me. I’ve never done the points thing though?

Kim- Is the IT issue from your last race? I hope it feels better soon! You deserve to walk Goofy with no injuries.

Lynn- I’m glad the skunk didn’t have rabies so the dogs are ok and out of quarantine! It seems odd only 25% are coming back positive, but it is prevalent enough there’s an issue in your area. I guess that 25% are causing quite a stink! Happy Anniversary!!!! How big was the hail? Like golf ball sized? It must have been bigger to dent the car right?

Emily- I hope your new shoes work out well. I’m glad you liked Les Miserable even though it was long and you were tired!

Elizabeth- I hope your race went well this past weekend!

AFM, I’m out of town for work training. So far it’s going ok. I got lost going to the hotel, and lost trying to find the training place, but at least I was looking for the training place the day before so I would know where I was actually going on the first day. And in my defense, there was no sign clearly defining where the hotel was anyway, so I never would have found it if I hadn’t called because it was actually on a different named road than its address hidden in some cul-de-sac. Otherwise, the training seems to have good information so far.

Hi everyone! Happy anniversary to Lynn and Scott! Congrats!

Regina - On the other thread, we were using points as a way of keeping score. So for example, you'd get 1 point if you did 30 minutes of exercise, 1 point for drinking 8 glasses of water a day, 1 point for eating 5 servings of veggies. We'd total the points and then we'd have a winner for the week based on points and another based on percentage of weight loss (sometimes it was the same person).

No pictures of the bacon cookies ... but I did save a small portion of the cookie dough so I'll take a picture when I bake the last batch. I was experimenting with refrigerating and freezing the dough. Supposedly it makes the cookies taste better.

I agree that it's better that you rest instead of running. One thing I've learned is that logging the miles aren't as important as being rested, healthy and unijured. Glad to hear you're learning stuff at your training session :)

Lynn - So glad to hear the pups are out of quarantine and the skunk didn't have rabies. Sounds like you and Scott had a fun evening except for the hail. That's certainly scary! I hope things go smoothly with the insurance company.

Dave - That's awesome! I will get you added to the calendar! If there are any other races, just let me know. pixiedust: for Sally! I hope she's able to get everything fixed at the chiro.

AFM - Yesterday was a rest day for me. I'm still sore from my Monday workout so it's just as well. I went out with my chiro for dinner last night so it was fun catching up! I also had a dentist appointment yesterday and the hygenist said that I might need to get braces to fix my bottom teeth. She also noticed that I had wear on my teeth - she thought from clenching my teeth too tightly. She said she was concerned because she thought it was something that was happening in the last year  I might go in for some xrays and have some molds taken but am not sure on whether to get the braces. She seemed to think they might cost $5K Part of it would be covered by insurance, but still  Guess I should have gone to denistry school :upsidedow

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Just back from an awesome training walk on my 6.7 mile river and hill route. New PR for this route, 1:17:54, that's a full minute faster than the PR I did for that distance last week. What more could you ask of a training program than to increase your speed every week. "The sky is not the limit, there are footprints on the Moon".

Dave:hippie:

Lynn and Scott...Glad to hear that your dogs are out of quarantine! I can only imagine how concerned you must have been. And a belated happy anniversary to you. DH and I celebrated our 35th anniversary on Sunday. How long for you? We are using our trip to DL for the half as our official celebration trip. We spent part of our honeymoon at DL and stayed at the DL hotel for two nights. We will be staying there again in Sept.

Vicky...Nice to hear that Ken and I aren't the only ones who could stand to lose a few pounds! My problem is that whenever I'm training, I get hungrier! And eating carrots just doesn't cut it! Braces, huh? They are expensive for sure!

Everyone who has been to see the chiro...I hope your adjustments have you feeling better!

AFM...Rest day today. Went out early yesterday morning for a short run. It was all ready 83 degrees when we left. Had a heat induced headache for the rest of the day. Figured I was dehydrated but no amount of water helped. And, on days when I have a headache like that, all I want is to eat comfort food, so doesn't help with the shedding of a few pound either!

Going to see the OT about my wrist again today. Feeling better today, but was really hurting on Monday!
