Here's the new thread for February! How's everyone doing with their goals for the new year? I'm going sugar free starting today and going to the gym on Wednesdays and Saturday for extra cardio since I can't run. I've got one marathon done and I'm probably planning on running MCM as my second. Btw, I love how everyone is filling out the race schedule for the year!

So what's going on for February? How's training coming along for the Princess racers? Keep up the good work everyone :)

:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Verticalchaos, aka Beth- I'm 39 and live in NYC. I teach students with autism. I'm a fairly new runner - started with the Couch to 5K program at te end of June. So far I've run 2 5Ks and a 10K - and I'm training for the WDW Half in January and the DL Half in September. And I may throw another Half in there somewhere. I've been actively working on losing weight since May and am down 19 pounds and at my lowest weight in over 10 years. No kids...just one very bratty and noisy Quaker Parrot named Benjamin Coffin the Bird (Benny for short).

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 41 and married with 2 children, DD9 and DD6. I'll ran my first 5k in July. I will be walking with my best friend in the 2011 Princess Half. If I'm ready, I plan to run my first half marathon in late October.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. There has been a great deal of stress in my life recently that I do not have the ability to change right now, so I decided to try running to help manage the stress and give myself goals to work toward and focus on. Right now I’m working toward my first half marathon in October (Wine and Dine).

Just a quick stop to mark locate the new thread.

Going out for a run tonight; my first since the ortho cleared me for running again.:thumbsup2

Hi Team!

This will just be a quickie post;

Elizabeth...I run with orthotics in my shoes and have no trouble at all. My are not custom made however. I get them from my local running store. The brand name is Powerstep. Years ago, before I took up jogging, I have custom made orthotics that I wore while walking. Because they had a cork bed, I found that they didn't have enough "give" when I ran, and caused my knees which already hurt to hurt even more! The orthotics from the running store don't cause that problem.

AFM...No intentional exercise since last week. I subbed at a local preschool on Friday morning, then came down with a sore throat, earache, and slight fever that afternoon. Went to the doctor yesterday and as I suspected, the ear was infected. So, taking a sick day today since the weather is supposed to get really windy today. Just thought it would be a good idea to have 24 hours of antibiotics in my system before I go out into the world again. Using my time to catch up on the laundry here. :laundy:

Hi team!

Kim- I'm glad DH is feeling better. I'm planning on doing the half marathon and possibly the 5k. I just have to find out where DH will be stationed so I can start planning and sign us up!

Beth- Cabin fever is definitely understandable!

Mary- I hope you feel better soon!!

Vicky- No way, it's too cold for me to run in vibrams! But one of my running friends has a friend that also runs barefoot even in the winter. I guess he's gotten frost bite and stuff on his feet from running in the snow/ice. I'll try to transition back to them when the weather gets a little nicer. How did your accupuncture go? No sugar that's great! Wish I were as strong as you! Although, I have cut my sugar intake back a lot I think, I still have a long way to go.

Elizabeth- I hope your run with the orthotic goes well!

Mike- Those are great goals!

AFM, Sydney and I went to the track and ran/walked for 30 minutes again today. It was actually really nice weather, apart from it being 34 degrees. An there was no one on the track which is always nice. Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Hello team!

Hope all is well for those in the path of the storm.

Mike - A race in the Antartic sounds awesome. I've always thought going to the Antartic would be really fun.

Beth - I have a similar issue where DH and I run although we don't have to contend with tour groups. We run on a pedestrian path which is next to a road. It's a fairly wide path but groups like to spread out across the whole path and don't move for approaching runners so you end up having to dodge them and the cyclists and the cars.

Mary - Hope you feel better soon!

AFM - DH went for a run on Sat and Mon. We're gradually increasing our running intervals. We also went bike shopping this weekend. I'm looking for an inexpensive bike to ride around the neighborhood. I saw a couple I liked but haven't bought one yet.

Have a good night!
Emily

Morning all!

Well, we're getting a "major ice storm" (per the director of the Office of Emergency Management) where people are being encouraged to stay off the roads, but... You guessed it. Schools are open on schedule. :headache: I'm not asking for the day! But seriously. Give us a two hour delay so it will have time to turn to rain across the city. I'm holding out hope that Staten Island Chuck will repeat his performance of last year with flourish - and it has NOTHING to do with his weather predictions. I'll put it this way...he doesn't like the mayor. :lmao:

Emily ~ Good luck to you and your husband with training. Have fun buying a bike!

Regina ~ Glad you had a good walk! One of my running club teammates runs barefoot or in vibrams, and she has some vibrams that have a liner of some type in them for winter running. I'll have to ask her about them.

Mary ~ Feel better!!

I think I'll be going to running club tonight - it's supposed to be clear to only rain by then. But we'll see. If it's too icky I'll just skip it, Wild Women's Wednesday or not. I don't want to get injured or sick.

Oh...Vicky? Can I get my name put on the running list like everyone else has rather than my screenname? Thanks! :goodvibes

Hope everyone has a great day! Guess I should get dressed so I can slide to the subway. Not amused by this prospect.

~beth

Good Morning Team!

I jumped straight to the Feb. thread, so I have missed a lot of comments. We made it out of Orlando yesterday before too many cancelations, weather here was clear but very cold! It was 4 below when we landed in Denver - very cold for Denver - and it was -8 when we made it up to Cheyenne. It made it down to -25 last night, and high today is supposed to be around 5 (above), so I do not think dogs will get their walk in today! The cruise was great - the Dream is a beautiful ship but very big. In the 4 days we were on the ship, we did not get to see everything - we never even made it into the Spa (and workout room).

Now that we are home for a few months, I really need to work on the exercise routine and eating routine! It looks like we are doing a Valentines 10K, will see if I can get that in - have not been walking distances for awhile.

Vicky - Thanks for the new thread!

Beth - Stay safe! I agree that schools should be closed if Emergency Management says to stay off roads!

Emily - Bikes are fun! Hope you find one you like!

Regina - Good job on the run!

Mary - Take care of the ear infection!

Kim - Glad to hear DH is better!

Pixie dust to all who are in need! Stay safe all of you in the storms path!

Have a great day team!

Just subscribing to the new thread.

Will check back later

Be safe out there everyone!!!

Hi team! Hope everyone is staying warm and dry today. I managed to make it into work - we got enough snow that it made the commute to work annoying but not enough for a snow day. D'oh! The annoying thing for me is that the plough take care of the major roads and sidewalks first so it's difficult walking out of my street. The snow is slippery and I have a hard time trying to stop myself from sliding around because of my ankle.

Traffic wasn't too bad going down - everything was moving slowly but there were fewer cars on the road. I think some people decided to take a snow day anyway :)

I did a bit of acupuncture on my ankle. I say a bit because I was a chicken and my chiro only did one needle. It wasn't as bad as I remembered it and I think I'll be okay with another two or so next time. She did tell me that she was taking an course in orthotics and was interested in trying out a fit index on me to see if I would be a good candidate. I know she's not big on them so I have the feeling she's more interested in trying out what she's learned in the course.

I still haven't been able to run yet but started deadlifting again with really light weights - just the bar (45 lbs) and two 5 lb plates LOL As long as the snow isn't too bad tonight, I'm going to try and make it back into the gym to do some biking.

Beth - No problem! I'll make the switch! I think I added your races to the calendar first. Actually, I couldn't remember anybody else's username, that's why I used their real names LOL Was it Groundhog Day today? Those little critters are so unpredictable! You totally should have got a snow day - if it's not safe enough for people to be on the roads ... then you should have extra time to get where you're going.

Lynn - Welcome back! Can't wait to hear about the cruise!! That is some cold weather you came back to! I'll bet the pups love it :) Let me know the name and date of your race and I'll add you to the calendar. There's a Valentine's 10K here next weekend - they're giving out chocolates and champagne at the end :)

Emily - Good job on the running! Let me know how the bike shopping goes! I'd love to pick one up myself but everything seems expensive!

Regina - I guess your feet toughen up or something. I can't imagine running with no protection on snow and ice. But to each his own :) WTG on all the running you've been getting in lately! If you want to go low/no sugar, start slowly by cutting out dessert or sugar in your tea. I still get sugar from fruits but try (hard) to stay away from refined or added sugars.

Mary - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better!

Sue - Did you make it into work? How's training for ATB going?

Elizabeth - How did your run go?

Mike - Hope you're hanging in there with the snow and all the extra hours :)

Dave - How's Sally doing with her job search?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Just added a Feb race--was looking for something this weekend, but....

3rd Annual Kiss-im-mee 5K Run/Walk, Kissimmee 5K

I also have a cruise on RCL March 21:cool1:

Thanks Vicky! :goodvibes Glad the accupuncture went ok! Good luck getting to the gym!

Yes, it's Groundhog Day today. Both Punksatawny (I know that's spelled wrong) Phil AND Staten Island Chuck predicted an early Spring. Chuck didn't bite the mayor this year, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Hee!!

Getting to school was an adventure. On a day when I walk very slowly and hit both stop lights, it takes me 5 minutes to get to the subway station. This morning? 30 minutes. 20 of them just getting down my block. It really was ridiculous. By the time I crossed my first cross street, I decided just to walk in the road and move over if a car came.

Woohoo on the new race and upcoming cruise Gerry!

Lynn ~ Glad you had a great cruise! :D

Stay well!!

~beth

Hi everyone!!!!!

Well survived snowmagedon 2012, not as bad as expected but took a snow day anyways:thumbsup2

Hope everyone did ok yesterday and no shovelling injuries.

Good Morning Team!

Doing the quick fly-by this morning.

Vicky, I have been a running slacker over the past couple of weeks. I'm doing some training for ATB & will make a last minute decision on weather I actually run. Don't know how you do the accupucture? Even 1 needle is 1 too many.

Mary, Hope you feel better soon.

Lynn/ Scott, Welcome back. Glad to hear you had a great cruise. Stay warm.

Have a great day...............Sue

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - For the virtual 10K, will just see if I can make it 6 miles on a nice day, will let you know if I succeed. I was never fond of needles, but I used to have acupuncture for my head aches, after the first few seconds, the needles did not bother me, and it got rid of my headaches!

Gerry - Have fun on both your race and your cruise!

Sue - Much warmer here today - yesterday at this time it was 25 below, today is 17 above! High today is supposed to be 32! Yesterdays high was 6 (I think).

AFM - I made it downstairs for 50 min of Pilates and 30 min on the spin bike. Will see if it gets warm enough to take dogs out for a walk - need to adjust to the cold temps after a warm trip to Florida!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Morning all!

We have this strange glowing thing in the sky today!!!! I think it's called the sun? It's been so long since I've seen it!!! Whee!!!

Lynn ~ Great job on the workouts! Hopefully it warms up for you!
Sue ~ Have a great day!

Me? I did Yoga Meltdown level 1 last night. Felt great. Today I'll hit the gym for a run, then go get my stuff for the race on Sunday. (Yes, it would make more sense the other way round, but I know what the gym locker room looks like when I finish a workout when I go directly after school, and that's terrifying enough. Cannot imagine it after even more people have gotten off work. I'm hoping that as their 1st month memberships begin to come to an end things might die down, but I don't know if they will.) I should walk up to the laundry and do at least a few things, but we'll see what time I get home from the other adventures as we're looking at at least an hour at the laundry, and I'm really feeling like bed needs to come EARLY tonight!!

Have a great day all!!

~beth

Hi team! Is everyone digging themselves out of the snow? We definitely didn't get as much as some of you guys did but just enough that we did have to do some shoveling. I hit the gym last night and it was deserted! I did 40 minutes on the spin bike and was able to increase the tension a bit more. But man, that seat! Someone at work said that I'd get use to it after a week or so.

Back in the gym tonight for a quick 30 minute training session and then home to relax!

Beth - I haven't been to NYC in the winter but there can't be much space on the sidewalks once the snow ploughs come by for the streets. I was walking in the streets yesterday too - it wasn' worth sliding down the sidewalks.

Kim - I saw all the snow on your pics! Yikes! That must have been quite the workout! I don't think we got quite as much as you did. How's the eating and working out going? Are you still packing lunches?

Sue - I had lunch with someone yesterday who said his friend won Midsummer Night's 30K. I think he finished in 1:59! I'm thinking, I haven't even finished a half in under 2 hours LOL It's the thought of the needles going in that bothers me more than the needles being in. Oh and if they turn them... I saw on the RR forums that there are lots of people looking for bibs, so you won't have any trouble selling your's if you need.

Lynn - I try to think of the needles that way too and I'm pretty good about the needles once they're in. My chiro probably thinks I'm a huge baby - she's always trying to distract me or bribe me with recipes :) WTG on your workout! Do you ever have problems with the spin bike seat?

Have great day everyone! :wave2:
