Haiti... Mom was trapped, injured, finally home [UPDATE: photos, post 41]

Kathy
I think of your Mom often, having met her at the DFW disboard meets. I work with visually impaired children, so the Dr.'s names were very familiar to me and had followed this story closely not realizing she was part of the group. I was deeply saddened to hear of Jean's death. Your Mother and her coworkers are in my prayers at this time and also in the future for continued recovery.
Give her an extra hug from all the DFW group.

So glad you're mom is ok. I watched the videos you posted. Very scary. I will keep her and her whole team in my prayers.

Kathy, Keeping your mom and your family in my prayers. What a traumatic event to be part of. Praying that your mom and her companions heal both physically and emotionally from this horrific ordeal.:grouphug:

Praying for everyone in Haiti:grouphug: :sad1:

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Horrible, horrible devastation and death in Haiti. Your poor Mother.:grouphug:
One of my friends is in Haiti now with Doctors without Borders.
All I can do is give money and prayers.:guilty:

How terrifying for your family. My thoughts and prayers are with your mom and all the people who've lost friends and loved ones.

 Thank you for sharing your story Kathy.

We have a friend that is still among the missing.:guilty:

The thing that strikes me the most is that there were an astounding number of coincidences and and unexplainable luck that led to the safe return of most of this group: The "backpack man" who asked if they needed help and happened to have generator and special excavating equipment in particular. I do not know how they were so lucky or so blessed, but I am very thankful that they were.

Wow, so sad. Prayer for healing being said. I believe in the darkest hours God is there and it sounds as if an angel was sent to help them.

It is a wonderful thing that your Mother is home with you now. What a tragic ordeal she has been through. It's people like her that bring the good to this world. Without her, good things wouldn't be getting done.

I hope she can rest a bit now, and recover physically, and emotionally from all she has been through.

Take care of yourself too. It's stressful having a loved one in harm's way.

If anyone's interested, I've been posting updates on the thread on the Podcast forum: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2370639

Mom continues to heal, but it's going to take a long time both physically and emotionally.

Tomorrow is the funeral for Jean Arnwine, the member of her team who did not survive the severe internal injuries suffered when the clinic they were in collapsed.

Kathy, I am sorry that your mom had to go thru this traumatic event. Please know that my prayers and well wishes go out to you all.

It sounds as if the man with the backpack.. was an angel. Glad to know that he was able to come thru for them.

Thank you for sharing the links.

Wow. Thank you so much for sharing those interviews!

These poor people have been hit with a 6.1 aftershock this morning, a strong and destructive earthquake on its own.

Continued prayers for the people in Haiti! Saying a prayer for Jean's family, your mom and all of the people who are trying to help!:wizard:

Kathy , I cannot begin to imagine how frightening it must have been for your dear Mom, friends, and all her family. Praise God she is back home safe and sound on the mend to healing physically and emotionally. My heart and prayers go out to all the lives lost, all the poor children and adults still struggling to hang on, all the many rescuers, doctors, military, and volunteers, fighting to help in this ongoing tragedy. May God grant them strength, hope and faith, to hang on.

Dr. Barth Green is the angel who arranged for my mom and 4 of her teammates to evacuate Haiti on a private plane on Thursday afternoon.

He co-founded an organization called Project Medishare that has been doing AMAZING medical work in Haiti for several years. There's a lot of information on their website about the rescue efforts and progress, including many, many photos they've taken in Haiti since the earthquake. Be careful- some are hard to look at.

You can also check out their Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/projectmedishare?ref=mf

These guys are my heroes.

There’s some footage that was taken yesterday of the clinic where Mom's team was trapped on the UMNS Facebook page here:

The United Methodist Church official site has a link to a really well-done Flickr slideshow that includes a couple of good photos of the Petit Goave clinic taken on January 22 (yesterday). There are also photos of Rev. Gesner Paul, president of the Methodist Church in Haiti. Mom says he joined the team for dinner on the night of their arrival.
