I just got my haircolored and unfortunately it turned out several shades too dark. I've washed it several times and nothing has helped. A lady at Sally's said to wash it with developer and shampoo, leave it on 5-10 minutes and rinse but that really didn't help.

I've been researching that if I mix Dawn detergent with shampoo, leave it on 5 minutes, and rinse it will come out.I thought about trying it and getting deep oil treatments to use after (one treatment every other day) so my hair doesn't dry out. Will this ruin my hair? My birthday is in a couple of days and I don't want to look

Thank you in advance for your posts and help. If it works, I'm going first thing in the morning to get some Dawn. My DD keeps reminding me when I look in the mirror that I hate my hair... :rotfl:

I went to a salon this morning and they sold me a good clarifying shampoo. I've washed my hair about 5 times with it and then applied a good conditioner. It's still too dark but its alot better!!! I can live with it and feel like I can go out in public. My DH said I was being picky but it made me feel bad to have it that dark. I plan on washing it several times a day until I can get it to fade to the point I can get it recolored by someone who is more skilled. :thumbsup2

Oh, the salon told me to stay away from Suave products-it makes your hair come out-seriously!!! Thought I would pass that along. Thanks for all the responses and help.

Suck it up and go to a professional before you do something unfixable.

:sad2: Been There! I used TIDE. Just tide. No need to mix it with shampoo. It took some of the color out but .... not all of it. It did not hurt my hair but it took some time to rinse out. It sure squeaked it was so clean.

If all else fails, add a few highlights! Good luck!

Well, I've been a hairdresser in my before children life and I have never heard of this. We used to use the developer and shampoo method with good results. Did you do a half and half mixture?

Sorry- I know it's a typo, but it still made me giggle! :lmao: ;)

I've done it! It was a pain to get it all out and it makes your hair really really dry. For better results - better for your hair too - I'd suggest a strong clarifying shampoo - Sebastian makes a great one that pulled stop-sign red out of my hair after a few washes, and a good conditioner with protein such as K-Pak by Joico. Go easy on the K-Pak because too much protein can be damaging to your hair, but it does pull color a bit too.

Me too, now that I just read it. :rotfl: If you ever read any of my posts, they usually have typos, or they have been edited to get rid of them.

And now I went back and edited it...so it says hair now.

If I use the Sebastian clarifying shampoo, will it lighten it some or will it pull out all the color? Either one is ok-just wondering what to expect.

I tried the developer as close to half/half with shampoo but if I leave it on my hair for longer than 5-10 minutes will it hurt? I did see some dark brown when I rinsed but not alot (like I want to see). I was too chicken to try leaving it on for longer.

Thanks for your help!! Maybe there is hope for my hair!! :teeth:

It should lighten it a lighten it a little. Clarifying shampoos pull things out - products, too much of other shampoos, chlorine, etc. Sebastian's was stronger than the others I found. But that also means it will leave your hair drier, which is why you'll need to deep condition (especially since you've just colored). It's an added bonus that protein conditioners also pull color. :)

I agree 100%!

In all honesty, if you didn't like the color you should have said something to the stylist right then and there.

I wear my hair very short (ie you couldn't damage it if you tried) and I still wouldn't mess with this one on my own.
