I have read a few references on these boards about kids getting haircuts in one of the parks? What is this all about?
Is there anything different or special here? or is this just a service that is available, if needed?
Also, I have boys and a girl. Does it make a difference?

The barber shop on Main Street in the MK is fabulous. My DH and DS had a great time getting their hair cuts there. I think the one stylist name was Billie. She was great.

Getting haircuts at the Main street Barber shop is the best! Myself and my 3 YO DD love to do this. They do a great job, and the best part is washable haircolors and "pixie dust" in your hair when your done! Also, if you have real little ones wait to get there first haircut there and they have a special ceramony along with a certificate and a special gift.

Billie cut our 4 y/o DS's hair for his 1st haircut when he was 18 months old. It was great. They made such a big deal out of it for us, he got a certificate, a lock of his hair, and souvenir mouse ears that say First Haircut. We videotaped the whole thing and took about 1 million pictures. It was a really nice experience.

We made 2 visits to the barbershop this past trip. The 1st one was for our little guy's first haircut. What an experience...Michal was fantastic with him. He put about 20 stickers all over his clothes so the baby spent the whole time with his head down picking the stickers off and handing them to me. He didn't even realize someone was fussing with his head!! He saved me every bit of hair, we got first haircut Mickey ears and the cutest certificate.

We went back a few days later cause DH and DS really needed a cut. Again they did a great job. They both declined the pixie dust but DD and I got some thrown on us. At $12, it's the most reasonably priced thing at Disney World!!

We got our son's first haircut at the Main Street Barber shop in August and it was so magical!

Michael covered Chase with Mickey stickers and was so sweet with him. My DH and I have decided that MK haircuts are now going to be a tradition for every WDW visit. So Chase will be getting his hair cut there again in February!!!

We can't wait.::MickeyMo

This sounds like fun! Can someone provide more info? Is it just first come, first serve? Or do you make appointments for later in the day? What time do they open up in the morning? Is the $12 charge a flat rate for all haircuts, including the washable haircolors and pixie dust?

Thanks for any info!! :D

We had Ds5 son's hair cut at the barber shop in May - It was great! It looked really crowded when we arrived but most of the people were just there listening to the barbershop quartet perform.

They don't take appointments so i would suggest stopping there 1st thing. The rate includes the color and pixie dust - an amazing deal!

DS had blue gel and was the talk of the day around the parks. The woman who cut it just did the top of his hair with the gel and on the back she used the gel to make a Mickey head shape. They mix the gel with what I think is Elmers Glue (it smells like it is) and tell you not to touch it for awhile. It took about an hour for it to dry. Once it is dry is sure stays in place! We let DH keep it for 2 days. It took a few shampoos to get it out. The "pixie dust" was really confetti size glitter of Mickey heads and glittery paper. CutE! For some reason I always assumed it'd just be tiny glittery sparkles.

He can't wait to do it again!

This sounds like a GREAT place!!! Can't wait for my DS (2.5) to get his hair cut. Friends did this on there last trip and got great pic's. They highly recommend this to everyone when they go to the MK.

Enjoy!!:wizard:

Can you get just a "do".... DD will not need a haircut, but might like a little fancy do. Also, can they do the glitter without the colored gel? Both of my kids are very blonde and sometimes things like that stain their hair (don't need green hair for a week!)......THanks....P

One of the first things we plan of doing at MK, when we arrive in 3 weeks, is getting DS (16 months) his first haircut.
And boy does he need one!!!:D

It sounds to me, from everyone's descriptions, that it is really a magical experience. Looking forward to it!!!!!!!!!:n

In June we did a "Locks of Love" haircut at MK. DD7 had 12" cut off and donated it. It was her first haircut, so she was given the ears, the certificate, lots of Mickey stickers and pixie dust. She still had tons of hair left, and the barber did a BEAUTIFUL french braid. I'm sure you could just have hair styled w/o a cut.

It was very much fun, but took about 90 minutes from the time we got there until we left. there were about 4 people ahead of us, and DD10 got her hair cut, too. We could have saved a little time if DD10 would have gotten in the other chair, but she wanted to wait for DD7's lady barber. Highly recommend stopping in!!

We had DH's hair cut in Oct. (He's a freak about keeping his hair short-- it gets cut about every 4 weeks). We were staying at BCV and he was getting antsy about his hair so he called the salon at the BC and it was going to be $30 to cut his hair!!! I said NO WAY! Let's go over to MK and see how much it costs there.

So after finding the Barber Shop (they're pretty well hidden!) we discovered that his cut would be $15. Now I could handle that! So we waited probably 45 minutes to an hour or so but I've got some cool pictures! He didn't want the colored gel but he did let her put the "pixie dust" in his hair. He got plenty of comments about his 'do that day!! It was a lot of fun and I recommend it for all ages--not just kids!

Just got back from WDW, the barber shop visit was GREAT!!!! My DS, DH and DGP all got hair cuts on Thanksgiving Day. Michael (Barber) was awesome!!! You can't go wrong with either Billie or Michael, they both are great! The price was good and the wait time wasn't too bad. :wizard:

We just got back too, and Billie cut my 5 year old's hair and put blue and green stripes plus the pixie dust. Boy was he happy. When his 3 yr old brother got jealous, Billie gelled and pixie dusted his hair too. Then, she did DH also, cause the kids wanted Daddy to have some fun too.

Boy, she was great... we gave her an extra tip on top of the $12 they charged.

We went in about 9:30 and had only 2 people in front of us. Since there were 2 hairdresser/barbers, we only waited about 30 minutes. Definitely worth it, especially since DSs got so many complements not just from guests but also from CMs, and even Mickey himself.:)

We just returned also- and had our youngest's first haircut done there. Honestly she didn't really have much hair to cut STILL (when will she ever really get hair? I dunno...) because the back was long and I didn't want anything cut there except to maybe even it out (hard to tell if it's even or not with it curling up in the back so much) but the front/top still is pretty thin/short on the hair... but she did need a little snipped off the front because her bangs were growing into a point which was really bugging me for months but I wanted to wait until we were there so she'd get her first haircut there! (think squiggy.... I think that's how you spell it? From Laverne & Shirley show.. that's how it would constantly settle in front no matter how many times I combed it/fixed it/etc LOL)

Anyway, all I can say is I can only hope hope hope that with future haircuts she will do as well as she did there! I was totally amazed... she sat perfectly still and only flinched a little when she sprayed water from time to time to dampen her hair to cut it on the bangs- but other than that... perfectly still, no crying, etc. There was only the TINIEST bit of hair actually cut off but the hairstylist saved every bit and I'm so glad she did- I was so caught up in the haircut, afraid of how she'd react, and taking pictures that I probably would have forgotten about saving those tiny locks of hair from her first haircut! That would have been a disaster once I realized it later! So I'm so glad she did that.

She also got the first haircut mickey ears (and wanted to wear them EVEN though she got pigtails put in her hair & "pixie dust"- the mickey confetti- sprinkled over) along with the special picture they take & the certificate. I wasn't expecting all that- and the price was still the same too! (so I tipped big on top of that price LOL)

I hope she does as well at subsequent haircuts- we won't be going as often in the near future so I doubt I can get ALL her haircuts done there at MK... wish I could though!

Oh and I forgot to mention we didn't wait long- just for one small child to get his haircut. The same person who cut my hair during my Jan 2003 solo trip is the one that cut my daughter's hair- she's great!

And a man was getting his haircut (his child was the boy that got his cut before my daughter also) and he got a buzz cut much to his wife's dismay UNTIL they colored it green on the top and put "pixie dust" in it- then it looked a lot like a christmas tree... I told him he just saved himself the cost of buying one of those Christmas tree hats so many people were buying/wearing there at that time. LOL
