OK, I've read so much now about hair wrapping and braiding. What is the deal? :confused3 Could someone please post a picture of each? All that comes to mind is the *Bo Derek* braids from the 80s. Is that what ya'll are talking about? So what is wrapping? I need to visualize this.

Thanks ~Mary

I am going to the gym now. When I return I want to see some pics!!! :magnify:

These pictures aren't of me (found them off google)
But these are pretty much what they looks like though

THe braids like that cost about 50$ (quite the rip if you ask me!)

Hair wraps like this normally cost a dollar or two per inch.

I got a hair wrap once, didn't enjoy it too much because it was REALLY hard to wash my hair. And I had to cut my hair to get it out. =\

Here's my DD6 who had her hair wrapped this past December at DTD. It cost $30 with tip.

We had no problem washing her hair or combing it, we just pulled that section out of the way. And as far as getting it out - once hair started peeking through (right at a month) I just cut at each color section with tiny scissors and it unwrapped very easily.

Haha. You are obviously much smarter than I am :rotfl2:
I had it a few years ago...I was 12-14 (somewhere in there) and I was soooo angry when I had to cut it out :rolleyes2 I wanted to get the half-head braids last year, but I couldn't stand to pay 50$ for it! (not worth it...because I'm a MAJOR freak when it comes to washing my hair and I think it would be hard to do with braids in)

My DD getting hers done at downtown disney!!!!!
It cost us 20 dollar's we also added a charm at the end which fell off in a week.

FYI, it's very easy to do a hair wrap. You just take a small section of hair, braid it and secure it with a small rubber band. Then you take DMC floss (like you cross stich with) measure it (you want about twice the length of the braid or longer) and tie it up near the scalp so that both ends are even. Then you select which color you want to start with (you will have two strands of it), hold the other colors next to the braid, and start wrapping the color around the braid/extra strands. When you want to switch colors, do a half hitch and pull out the next color and put the first color next to the braid and keep on going. Takes a while but easy peasy. All the little girls in my neighborhood love for me to do their hair.

Hmmm... maybe I'll just try to do some fun braids for her myself. No way do I want her head getting blistering sunburn with the braids (I know it would happen, even with sunscreen - very fair skinned w/blond hair). And at $1-2 per inch, the wrap could add up pretty quickly - her hair is down to her hiney, at least 20+ inches.

I will practice putting some cool beads in with the twist-a-braid and hair beader things she has. I may try the wrapping myself. Thanks for the pics and advice!

I hope my DD has enough hair on our next trip. (whenever that might be) :rotfl2: I think she will love it. She just turned 3.

When we lived in the states we would always go to the local beauty school to have DD's hair braided, it would only cost about $15 and would last at least a week.

As for the wraps, I think it is too expensive so DD either pays for it herself or bats her beautiful brown eyes at Grandpa. Most recently she had it done at Busch Gardens, I think my Dad paid $35.

I tried to add a picture of DD with her braids but couldn't figure out how to insert a picture, tips??
